I asked my Dad if I could go. We are also in Houston.  What do you mean it is not true?  Did they try to make you pay money for classes or something?

Its a scam, but its not illegal.  Here's how it works.

Everyone who goes to the audition is told that they are almost good enough to be in a movie.  They just need some training and some professional photographs.  Training is only available through the audition company and it costs several thousand dollars.  The photographs are also available only through the audition company and cost another couple thousand dollars. After you pay all that money they send you the "Help Wanted, Actors" section of a couple of Hollywood area newspapers.  The ads are for "cattle call" auditions - several hundred people apply for 3 or 4 real job openings.

They don't promiss to help you get a job so they aren't breaking the law.
