- Scam BaitI know everyone wants this guy caught. Unfortunately, we're not dealing with an amateur. I have been trying to trace where these scams are coming from and the tracks are well covered. I've been messing with this guy for about three weeks, I've killed 9 of his domains so far and I'm not even close to being done.
Wanna help? Here's what we all can do:
STEP 1> Set yourself up with a gmail account. Gmail doesn't reveal your ISP information in its headers. Create a fake identity and write it down somewhere (consistency is key to a good lie) DO NOT give this shitheal any of your private information.
STEP 2> Go out and find yourself "the deal of the century", we've all caught on to this guy's MO and it's easy to spot: Vehicle is always under $5000, this keeps them "under the radar" so to speak, anything above $5000 is a felony. The ad is usually a single jpeg. The seller claims to be in the military and stationed over-seas.
STEP 3> Start off by emailing the seller, pretend to be interested and string this guy along. You'll get to a point where he will ask you for your full name and address, be sure to give him your FAKE IDENTITY. Shortly after you send him your fake info, you will receive an email that looks like it's from eBay, but it's not. It's a fake eBay invoice. Do not reply to him or this email yet.
STEP 4> Immediately forward this email to spoof@ebay.com, then proceed to step 5
STEP 5> Here's where it gets tricky: take note of the email address that fake ebay invoice came from. For example, I got my fake ebay invoice from "support@vppsafefastpayment.com", the domain is "vppsafefastpayment.com". Let's look it up!
STEP 6> Go to http://samspade.org, enter in the domain and click the "whois" button. You will get something that looks like this:
>vppsafefastpayment.com = [ 216.239.38.21 ]
>
>(Asked whois.godaddy.com:43 about vppsafefastpayment.com)
>
> Registrant:

> Registered through: GoDaddy.com Inc. http://www.godaddy.com
> Domain Name: VPPSAFEFASTPAYMENT.COM
> Domain servers in listed order:

> NS50.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
> For complete domain details go to:
>(Asked whois.crsnic.net:43 about =vppsafefastpayment.com) (show) <---CLICK ON "show"
and you get this:
>Whois Server Version 2.0
> Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered
> with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
> for detailed information.
> Domain Name: VPPSAFEFASTPAYMENT.COM
> Registrar: GODADDY.COM INC.

So, we see that this domain is registered through GoDaddy. But who's hosting it? If you look at the beginning of the "whois" query, you'll notice where it says "vppsafefastpayment.com = [ 216.239.38.21 ]".
216.239.38.21 is the IP address that domain points to. If you click on that address in SamSpade, it will perform a query on it:

That reveals GOOGLE as the host! So now, we have the host and the registrar of "vppsafefastpayment.com"
STEP 7> Report that domain to the host and registrar! In this case, I forward my fake ebay invoice along with a brief, yet professional explanation of said domain to abuse@google.com and abuse@godaddy.com. Also, take note of any phone numbers in the whois queries. Sometimes you can get farther faster with a phone call than with email. So, by now, I've reported that message to eBay, Google and GoDaddy.
STEP 8> Wait! - time is on YOUR side. Give it a day or so before you reply. Now, you can email the "seller" and say that you never received an invoice from eBay or that the email was garbled or whatever...it's up to you to be creative!! But the trick is to buy yourself some time.
If you get another email from fake ebay, take note of the email address, if it's a different address or domain or even if it's the same one, repeat steps 4-8. Keep reporting domains! Keep doing this for as long as you can, make up excuses, lie your ass off, BE CREATIVE!! waste this ringmeat's time! keep him on his toes and KEEP REPORTING! The domain registrars, hosts, ebay will be so inundated with all of our abuse emails, it will be impossible for them to ignore this problem.
Good luck to all! - pop| 1 replyI would like you guys to look up and wacth out at http://www.stars-automart.com/ I'm not sure this website is scam or not. the price is exteamly cheap!!! anyone please write any suggestion please?..... because I'm goingto buy one.

FBI Warns of Online Car-Sales Scam
Scam artists pose as military personnel about to be deployed

March 9, 2009

Scam artists are now posing as members of the United States military in a new ruse to dupe consumers buying vehicles on the Internet, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warns.
These scammers claim they’ve either been sent overseas to improve military relations or need to sell their vehicles “quickly and cheaply” because of upcoming deployments to Iraq or Afghanistan, FBI officials say.
This is a new twist to an old scam that continues to rip-off unsuspecting consumers buying cars and other vehicles on the Internet, the FBI says.
“Victims find attractively priced vehicles advertised at different Internet classified ad sites,” the agency warns. “Most of the scams include some type of third-party vehicle protection program to ensure a safe transaction.”
After consumers receive what the FBI calls “convincing e-mails from the phony vehicle protection program,” they are told to send either the full payment -- or a percentage of the payment -- to the third-party agent using a wire payment service.
“No vehicles are delivered to the victims,” the FBI said.
Consumers can protect themselves from getting taken in one of these schemes by doing their homework before buying any vehicles on the Internet, the FBI said. Consumers should also know and follow the rules used by the Internet sites they visit. If someone asks you to break those rules, the FBI warns, that person is likely trying to rip you off.

He actually stated that he is listing it way below list price to help his sister with her medical bills. He used an alias of a real person in the Air Force. This happened just today.
I had actually gotten to the point of calling the moneygram locations with plans of making the transaction tomorrow. I'm an US Air Force Ssgt.currently stationed in the United Kingdom. The car is here with me. It was bought in the US and shipped to Europe, but it was never permanently registered here, the car is still registered in the US.The car is for sale locally as well, but there are slim chances of this to happen. In order to be able to register this car here in the UK the buyer would have to pay very high import/custom taxes that will double the price. So I decided to sell the car back in the US.
The price is $4,850.00 US Dollars including shipping from the UK to the US and delivery to your home address. So if you decide to buy this car or need further information please get back to me as soon as possible.

I've owned this car since 2007 and had very little issues with it. The car has been fully paid. It has always been serviced at the regular intervals and it's very robust. I was totally charmed by the car at that time and bought it on the spot.
It now has 59900 miles and is looking better than ever.
It is located in Lutz, FL. The engine is a 4 Cylinder gasoline with front wheel drive. Automatic transmission shifts as smooth as in day one.
Its options include: Driver Air Bag, Anti-Lock Brakes, Air Conditioning, Air Conditioning , Cruise Control, CD Player, AM/FM Radio, Passenger Air Bag, Rear Window Defroster,AM/FM Stereo Cassette, Power Door Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Windows, Power Steering, Leather Seats, Side Air Bag, Sunroof/Moonroof, Tinted Glass, Tilt Wheel.
All mechanical and electrical devices operate as designed, no issues. The interior is in pristine condition, no rips, no tears, no stains, non smoker. No dings or dents, original accident-free paint job, nice and lustrous. Interior is perfect, some wear on the original floor mats. The are no issues with the car. I repeat, it's a very well maintained car and it's very hard for me to let it go.
This is the VIN: 4T1BE32K64U271374 so you can run an Carfax report (www.carfax.com) on the car if you'd like.
I hate to let it go but I don't have any other choice.
I've also uploaded pictures here in order for you to be more familiar with my car : http://s657.photobucket.com/albums/uu294/davidbraid/
Feel free to e-mail me any questions.
The car will be shipped on my expense from Lutz, FL and will be at your door in 3 days tops.
If you want to continue, please send me your full name and your shipping address so that I will let eBay Protection Program know that you are interested. You will receive an email from them instructing you how to send the payment. The money will be kept by them and you will only release the funds to me if you decide to keep the car (after receiving and inspecting it). I think this is a fair way to make business and I hope that you'll agree.
The most important thing in all my activity here is that I am affiliated to eBay's Protection program, and I have a a purchase protection account for 10000$ and i assume you know what this means. In case we close this deal, you are protected by eBay's Protection Program: 1) In case you do not receive the car exactly as I have described it to you or you do not receive it at all, eBay will give you a full refund of the amount that you have paid the eBay agent, although this is not the case.
2) You will send the money to eBay Protection Program and I will get a notification to ship the car. After you receive and see that the car is the one you want, you just notify eBay to forward me the payment details in order for me to pick up my money.
Let me know if this is OK with so we can move forward with this deal!
Also please write me what you decide because i have a few possible buyers.
Looking forward to hearing from you,

Send me your name and shipping address so I can notify them that you're interested and they will contact you with details.
You will then have to send them the payment according to their instructions. As soon as you do that, they will have the agent that's handling our deal, pick up the car and take it to your location for the inspection period. You will have up to 10 days to inspect the car at your local dealer. In case you decide to keep the car, the agent will assist you with all the paperwork, will help you transfer the title to your name and also give you the bill of sale. You will also be required to release the money from Ebay to me. In case you reject the car, the agent will give you a full refund and the car will be returned at no cost to you. - johnsonkay replies to Jamie| 2 repliesDate: Fri, 31 Jul 2009 00:25:29 +0200

The total price is $4850,no shipping costs.
The payment will be made through eBay. I'm under Contract with eBay which states that we can close the deal using their service.Very Important, Only after you will receive the car, eBay will release the money to me.
The money will be sent per ebay instruction and you will give the payment details only to eBay. They will verify the payment and when the money are confirmed they will notify me to proceed with the shipping process. After you receive and see that the car is the one you want, you just notify eBay to give me the money.
In order to start the deal I need YOUR FULL NAME and SHIPPING ADDRESS so I can register the transaction with eBay. They will let you know what you have to do for the payment.
Thanks!

I will have the car shipped from UK by an US Air Force cargo plane so there won't be any additional shipping costs. The shipping will take 6-8 days, depending on your location.Shipping will be door to door,to your home address, somebody must be home when the car arrives to sign for the reception. The car will arrive with all the papers and documents required for registration and the keys. The clear title and the bill of sale will be already signed by me.
The payment will be done through eBay.You will send the money to eBay and as soon as the payment is confirmed they will notify me to proceed with the shipping. I will ship the car you will receive it and you will have 5 days for inspection, both the car and the paperwork and the option to accept or reject the car.The inspection time period will begin as soon as you sign for receiving the car at your requested address.During all this time eBay will hold the money into a trust account. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before decided to buy it.If you are satisfied with the car and decide to keep it you inform eBay about this and they will release the money to me. If the car is not as advertised and decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back the car will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for the both of us.Please take in to consideration that I will get paid only after you receive the car and make sure everything is as agreed.
If you agree with these terms and you have the money, send me your full name and the address where you want the car to be delivered to and I will initiate the transaction with eBay. You will receive all the transaction details from them.I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible.
Thank you!

Thank you
Sgt.Kris Lenning
