Got 2 calls from this caller. Called back and got an ipsos marketing research company located in Canada. I just got a new phone number, maybe they were looking for the previous number owner. No message was left both times, hard to say what they wanted.
Caller: ipsos marketing research

I, too, have received phone calls from this Ontario number (613) 688-3625.  I very clearly heard them say "Hello", could hear the telemarketing sounds in the background, then they hung up.    When I returned the call, got automated voice services -  and placed my number on their "Do Not Call" option (which hung up halfway thru.  I then reported it to the FCC's Do Not Call Registry.  When I received my telephone bill, I had been billed an extra $5.00 for placing this call.  Since I had reported it to the National Registry, I had confirmation of attempting to resolve this phone call, and that it was a telemarketer, so was able to get the phone company to take the charge off my bill.   However, may want to beware - as this may be a new scam, trying to get people to call back, and billing them.

I think you just got charged for a long-distance, international phone call.

Will a Telezapper get rid of these phone calls?  I've had two calls from them this afternoon.  Each time they called they hung up before my answering machine could pick up.

Got two, maybe three calls in a row. Told them ech time they have the wrong number. I asked who they try to reach and who they are, told them each time: wrong number and hung up.It really got on my nerves.

I actually answered this call, which normally I don't do and they were actually a research company asking my opinions on TV viewing.  They did not try to sell me anything and did not ask for any personal information, so I believe they are legitimate.

I too got a phone call from this company on 1/14 around 7:20 PM.  I only answer calls that have a name as well as a phone number displayed on my caller ID and this company displayed both.  The lady only asked for any person in the household between this age and that age ;) She wanted to know if I was interested in viewing a DVD and giving my opinion.

The above "positive" comment about this company is from a company shill.  They are shrewd enough to have your number and make big bucks using it then they are shrewd enough to know to do a Google search of their own number and plant these fake comments on message boards in order to throw good people off base.

Do NOT take the call.

I got a call from 1-613-688-3625 on SUNDAY, January 27.2008 at 6:37 p.m. Can we not have ONE day of rest form telemarketers!? I brusquely told the woman that it was a Sunday and to remove me details from the list and hung up. I hope that our government takes action on telemarketers sooner rather than later.

We finally answered their call and found out what they wanted. It was a TV review and we just told them that we don't watch TV and to please stop calling. They have not called us since.

I saw this number after many hang ups were left on my answering machine.  Today I answered it and they hung up, so I Googled the number and found your information.  It is apparent that they really don't want to talk, just get you to call back as noted below.

People..

Telemarketers and MARKET RESEARCH are not the same thing.

Telemarketing = trying to sell you something.

Market research = They want your feedback on something.  Like which shows you watch, which brands you buy.. etc...

Marketing Research conducts opinion polls to find out what you like or don't like and then they sell your telephone number with your interests to Telemarketers.  Beware!

Thank you susan.

I am a member of the IPSOS survey community. I didn't realize until I found this website that they were calling me.

You are correct, too - market research folks just want your opinion (*NOT* your money).

I will definitely answer when they call back. And, as others have found... they will then stop calling.

Thanks again!

From personal experience, I can tell you with confidence that answering their call will NOT stop them form calling you again, and again, and again, so any assertion to the contrary is pure baloney.

The fact that they place their call center in a Canadian area code should be your first clue that it is their desire to intentionally circumvent the telecommunications laws of the USA. And, there are more telecomm laws related to these pest than the DNC, which does not apply to survey takers and such. Most of the applicable those laws were written by and for the Corporatocracy's advantage even the DNC list regulations are skewed to favor them, and NOT the consumer telephone subscriber.

I suggest that the best defense is to visit this site http://www.grandcentral.com/home/reserve and reserve a Grand Central number for life. Then contact EVERY business and every friend, and family member and provide them with your new GC number. Then drop or change your other, unprotected numbers.

When an unsolicited call comes into someone's home it is infringing on that persons time.  It doesn't matter if they are selling something or asking for an opinion, it's still an inconvenience, especially when you have a baby taking a nap. IT'S NOT OK JUST BECAUSE IT'S MARKET RESEARH.  By the way they just called, my baby WAS sleeping and its Sunday...a day off from unsolicited calls would be nice!

Marketing research people will ask if you like product XX, then if you say "yes" they will forward your number to companies that make XX and then you get more annoying phone calls.  They are still marketing people, just INDIRECT marketing, and deserve no response other than an air horn on the phone followed by hangup

Just got two calls in two hours from this number. I didn't pick up because I don't know anyone in Ontario (per Caller ID). I let the answering machine pick up, and they didn't leave a message either time. Sometimes I think I'm paying for a land line just so these idiots can call me.

Okay, make that 3 calls in 3 hours. And I noticed only the latest call shows up on my Caller ID list. Is this normal? There were no intervening calls from anyone else.

I got a call from these clowns too. All I heard was "two, three, four" and so of course I replied "five, six, seven" and they hung up. They may be in Canada, but that doesn't mean you can't sue them in the USA. It's quite easy to sue them under the Do Not Call laws. For those who happen to be in California, first you have to bill them for the violations. They will of course ignore your bill. Then you sue in small claims court. Here's where you have the LA County Sheriffs (or your favorite process server -- I have better luck with them than with the sheriffs) deliver the lawsuit. This is from the California Attorney General Business Portal, where you can look up the agent for service of process. If they do business in California, they have to be registered here and they have to have a agent here to accept court papers.

I received 2 calls from this number yesterday at dinner time, and I have an unlisted number, which I have had for years!

I could barely understand the caller - sounded East Indian, but I did gather that it was some kind of market research call. On the 1st call I said that I was eating my supper, and offered 2 words of advice, the 2nd of which was 'off'. 12 minutes later they called again. I just let it go to voicemail, and no message was left. I then 'blocked' the number.

Junk calls at dinner time are junk calls at dinner time, I don't care if the are telemarketers or researchers. I am paying extra for an unlisted number for a reason!
