I got the same message, no company name was given.  Sounds like a scam.  The message was for my sister so not sure how they got my phone number, we have different last names.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

I just got a call on my husbands phone for me saying that they have paperwork for me to signed. I don't know who these people are. They gave a reference number. I tried to do a reverse look up and nothing comes up. The people told me if nothing comes up, they have a private security lock on the number so people won't know who they are.

I've received the same message 3 days in a row from a woman named Ashley. The voicemail recording doesn't give a company name either. Seems sketchy!

Our message says that it is for "A Person" with our last name, but no one in our family has that first name. We always look up these numbers on these sites before calling anyone back. Pretty much the same message "important paperwork".

Clearly a skip tracer for a debt collector contacting everyone with the same last name trying to find "A Person".  The best advice is to block their number(s) if they continue to call.  They frequently will not believe the person they are seeking is not at your number.

Just received a call for my ex-husband - we've been divorced for 20 years.  Said they were the "The Law Offices of Vance and Huffman" with important paperwork for him.  I'm sure it's some kind of debt collection.  I would tell them to get in line, but he's been dead for 4 years.

Leaves daily ambiguous voicemails on my cell referencing paperwork that they need to discuss without identifying who they are or what the paperwork pertains to.
