- MT| 5 repliesSays he is Scott Pope from North American Mediations and were hired by SSM group to collect on payday loans that were never repaid. I called North American Mediations, they have 4 employees and he is not one of them.
- Dylan replies to MTJust got called from Scott as well. Is it a scam? Have you heard anymore from them?
- Al replies to MTJust called me today trying to collect on a payday loan from 2011. Says there is a company called north American mediation and associates that's not his company but same name. Offered a settlement I think it's [***]
- nascarpath| 4 repliesits a payday loan scam do not call back that number or they will charge your phone its a scam
- Call type: Debt collector
- anonymous replies to MT| 2 repliesSame here. I just received a call last week from a Scott Pope and the guy got snippy with me when I questioned if it was for real. They told me if I had an attorney call to try to stall that charges would be brought against me. I just recieved a call from a guy supposedly named Allen Rayford or Reefer, saying he was an investigator with the same call back number a week later. I called North American Mediations last week and they said that it is a scam.
- Charles replies to nascarpath| 3 repliesMy name is Charles Montgomery and I work for North American Mediations. Let's get this clear, this office is a legal office that is meditating and trying to HELP people close out pre-existing loans that went default. We have ALL necessary paperwork to verify every step of the loan including ALL the information you provided on the original loan application. The REAL scammers are the people who take these out and never pay them back. North American Mediations didn't ask you to take the loan out, nor did we tell you to default on paying it back. I don't understand how people can call us a scam, when thy're the ones who essentially stole money. Please stop bashing our company as all we're doing is trying to help people.
- KHarris replies to CharlesI have received phone calls from this number for my brother who does not live anywhere near me. If you guys are legit, you should know that calling family members and giving them details about someone's else's personal debt is completely illegal!!! You don't even acknowledge that it is not his number even tho you have been told this,, you leave messages for him , stating that he is being sued for check fraud and he better call u back asap or the FBI will be getting involved. You may want to check the Fair Debt Collection Acts before someone sues YOU
- LeoPrivacy Policy Act sound a little accurate also when it comes to splurging someone's personal information with family members and coworkers.I am NOT bashing the company, I am bashing your professionalism which is very horrible and your attitude, yes it does suck. Before you pick the phone up and harass another person to " help them" I think you need to brush up on your laws and your standards per each State and County of these claims your are referring to with each individual before someone calls you with an Attorney to sue you for neglecting the Privacy Policy Act...
- Caller: North America Mediations
- Call type: Prank
- Resident47 replies to Charles} We have ALL necessary paperwork
If you can already prove your accounts valid, why bother deliberately calling the wrong parties, making idle and illegal threats, or denigrating alleged debtors? Just dun them and sue the ones who don't respond or won't pay. You don't need angry theatrics for that model to work.
} The REAL scammers are the people who [default on PDLs] .... thy're [sic] the ones who essentially stole money
One more time for the slow children in your office, defaulting on a PDL is not "theft" or "check fraud", as payday loans are consumer credit tied to instruments *known to be worthless* by a consenting lender upon acceptance.
} I don't understand how people can call us a scam
Search me too, must have something to do with those scripted trigger words like "fraud", "investigators", "mediators", and other legal-ish nonsense commonly spouted by extortionists working without a staff attorney or any standing to bring suits.
} all we're doing is trying to help people
Indeed, the managers need help subsidizing their mini-mansions and luxury cars.
} a legal office that is meditating
What do you use for focus objects, crystals, candles, or spiff checks? .... oohhmmmm .... oohhmmmm .... oohhmmmm .... oohhmmmm .... - BigA replies to CharlesWell now if you are as legitimate as you say your are, there should be no problem listing the actual address of the company as well as the names of the "attorneys" and the state where they are registered to practice law. This is all a matter of public record and in the case of a "legal" firm you are required to disclose that information. It is also information that you are required by Federal law to disclose within 5 days of first contact with the alleged debtor. They also at that point have 30 days to dispute the debt and if they do, you must obtain the proof from the alleged original creditor to prove that the debt not only is the debtor's responsibility but that you have the legal right to collect said debt. I am pretty sure you will not answer this post because to do so would allow everyone to know who you are and where you are located. But if you are strictly following the law, then their should be no problems. Of course if you do not post the information, that will verify that you are nothing but a bunch of criminals trying to extort money from honest hard working people.
- Acme delivery service| 1 replyAll together gang for our special needs debt collector. 'Debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter'. There is no fraud. There is no check fraud. You owe money. This constant repeating of the same misinformation reminds me of the roadrunner & coyote cartoons. The coyote's traps fail & he tries the same thing again as though the results will be different.
- Caroline replies to anonymousI received a call from this Allen Rayford too. He claimed to be the chief legal investigator of my county's circuit court. I called the circuit court office and they claimed that if someone owed money they would not call them nor do they do any debt collection. And I also talked to the "Pope" guy. I think his first name was John or something. It sounded pretty iffy to me too. I am not a believer of this company. Today, Just five days after our conversation I tried calling the number back and operator says "that i have reached a number that is not set up to take calls"...mind you I just called this number last week, five days ago!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.- Caller: Informational Post

- Resident47 replies to Acme delivery serviceWile E's chief problems were his own hubris and the highly variable laws of physics found in his part of the American Southwest. In general even his more convoluted plans had a reasonable chance of giving him an advantage over Road Runner, but Wile was constantly frustrated by unexplained anomalies and disruptions which tended to disfavor him and favor his prey. Wile E did in fact often modify his approach when retrying a particular trap or device, which would frequently counter him with a different manner of failure.
To compare and contrast, the extortionist thug chasing dubious and phantom debts operates in his own fantasy land where consumer laws are nullified and might makes right. He's not smart enough or creative enough to work without a script or a pit boss to coach his lies. His frightful tricks and traps easily fall apart when people refuse to play by his rules and thus avoid becoming victims.
For anyone curious, Director Chuck Jones explained the mechanics and rules of his Road Runner shorts in his hysterically wise autobiography "Chuck Amuck". - AnnaThey claim to be trying to fix your computers and your infected IP address, they gain remote access into your computer while talking you through the steps after the access your computer they ask you for a one time payment to fix it, once we said we were going to call Apple (it's a new laptop) they get annoyed and hang up. It's a scam!!!
