A history on 800notes.com. Pretend to be government employees vaguely connected to law enforcement. Threats of arrest. Allegations of fraud. Demands that you call back to a certain number. Threats that they are going to serve you with papers. Calling your employer. Pretending to be a law firm. The whole nine yards everyone is familiar with.

Fraudulent or Zombie Debt Collectors—Things to Know
If you have received a call stating:
1. You have defrauded a financial institution
2. You owe an unpaid payday loan
3. You have a warrant due to an unpaid loan
5. You will receive a court summons
6. Authorities are coming to arrest you
7. Anything similar to above,
a. Do not give them any information or verify any information for them
b. Tell them you know they are a scam operating illegally and that you are filing a complaint with the appropriate authorities
* File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
* File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in
The more information and complaints there are, the better the chance of getting these criminals to stop (or at least reduce the frequency). [abstracted from another site]
They continue to bother you, tell them you are going to the police to make a complaint of extortion. - CWG40 replies to CDWESLEYIgnore. Total scam.

Did not really hear what company they said they were with. They also mentioned a credit card I had and said they would just settle right now. Should I call credit card company and warn of possible fraud.

- Not Orlando GarciaSo I am one of the unfortunate guys who gave this man (Orlando Garcia) my credit card number, he actually charged $2100 from it. I was dumb enough to think that he was a legitimate rep calling from a collections company, since I do have a collection with a company. The amount he was trying to collect sounded outrageous but I also thought the amount was legitimate if I was to account for interest that had accrued over time. I should have known from the moment I said to him that I forgot my wallet at home, that I would have to call him back, he refused, made me call home from another phone to get the card from my wife. She was smarter than I was and warned me but I was so scared about me getting sued that I just provided the card. After getting home I checked my credit report and came to find out that I did not have such debt, it was a debt to HSBC. I called my bank immediately, told them exactly what happened and they cancelled my card, issued me a new one but the payment had already gone through. I placed a complaint with my bank, they are investigating but I was warned that I may be liable for the payment since I authorized it. This just happened Sept 4, I am so mad at myself for not listening to my wife; I call this events lessons learned, but it was a very expensive lesson that I hope never to repeat. Advice, if someone calls you asking for money and refuses to either give you information or accept a call back, be very suspicious, do not give them your money.
