- LWCalled left message to call back, left a claim number. Did not state reason .
- sfThey call 1-2 every day. I think it is a bill collector for whoever had my cell phone# before. They give you a claim# but I have never called back. I don't answer anymore, but would like to make it stop. Help.
- escapewisconsin| 1 replyI believe this is some sort of collection service. However, they called us from a different # in the past (866-429-4382).
They are actually looking for an estranged distant relative I have not heard from in over 7 years. 800notes responders for the original number stated that it is likely a collection scam. Nonetheless, I would never be fronting payment on a delinquent bill for anyone, family or otherwise, that incurred said bills as an independent adult. I blocked the original number. Since the number of comments on this page are few (so far), I am suspecting this group is rotating numbers to throw off people trying to block them. Oh yes, all calls are automated, giving a claim number and pressing 1 if you are the person. What if we're not... We're supposed to get these intrusions on a daily/hourly basis? State's Attorney General will be getting a call if this continues. Stay tuned.- Caller: They do not say.

- BigA replies to escapewisconsinYou can be assured that these are criminals masquerading as debt collectors. There is a 99% chance that your relative doesn't even owe this so called debt. I see no reason to wait to file a complaint since what they are doing is against Federal law. The proper place to make reports are as follows:
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php - MichaelAutomated message asking if I was my father. Said to press one. Went on to say some claim number and I hung up. Obviously a scam of some sort.
- Call type: Debt collector
- ChristyThis is a scam!!!!! They called my mother and left a msg with a claim # for me. Called them back and they said that there was a litigation against me for a preauthorized monthly banking transaction that was unable to occur due to non suffiecient funds. When asked what is the name of the comapny that I awe money. I was told a comapny that I have never heard of. I informed them that I dont authorize automatic debits-ever- so, this cannot be legitimate. They hung up one me after I continued to inform them that this whole situation is BS and that if it is true send it to me in writing. They are looking for access to your bank accounts!!!
- Call type: Debt collector
- WhatDNCListThe name attached to the "claim number" was Eugene Coleman. If I wasn't him, I was to hang up and disregard the message. Errr... they were leaving the message, so how could I hang up on them, eejits??? Besides, no one by that name has had this number in the 20 years I've had it. So there.
- aleenI received a call today also. It was automated and a recording. It never stated a name. It stated something about a claim against me. I have no outstanding claims. I did not answer nor did I call back. This is a scam. Please do not give out any info.
- JessicaHave been getting consistent calls from these goobers! They even have started calling my brother-in-law now. They also changed their number to try to be less conspicuous. Just want them to stop!
- David Morrill| 1 replyI received a call from the 866-401-5023 # and they knew my social, and said I owed $2,510. For 1, I never give out my social, and second, I have never had anything whatsoever to do with this company. For sure, my phone will be busy in the morning !!!
- Caller: Payday Loans
- Call type: Debt collector
- Anonymous| 3 repliesThey called earlier today and said that I took out a loan on January 1st 2013 for 450 and I could settle the payment today for 6 hundred dollars and some change or they will file a lawsuit against me. They had my account number, my social, and wanted me to set up automatic debits and to agree to the terms. I've called every credit bureau and there has never been anything remotely similar to this pay day company that I supossedly borrowed from. This is clearly a scam!

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.- Caller: Informational Post
