Called and left an auto message saying I had a complaint filed against me. They stated they had my social security number and left a case number. If I wanted to know the nature of the complaint I had to dial 8, or call them back. While I don't know if this is related or not. I had a similar auto message left on my VM months ago that said I had a legal complaint filed against me and I had to call them back to avoid litigation. It turned out to be a scam/hoax. I reported the number to the do not call list, and filed a complaint. Considering the lack of details provided in the call and it was an automated message leads me to believe this 888-283-5547 is the same type of hoax. No matter what do not give these guys any of your personal information - even if they say they already have it and just need to verify it with you.

I got the same call and I know that I don't have any problem with anyone, so I search on Google see if anyone report that kind phone call. I'm glad some talk about it and point out that's a scam. So don't call them back.

Received a call from 702-757-2052 with a recorded msg that stated I had a complaint against me, they stated they had my name and ssn and directed me to call 888-283-5647 and include a provided account number. I did call just for my own entertainment purposes and found out the indeed did have my last four which is pretty easy to obtain. After refusing to provide them with the complete number they ended the call but not before I instructed them to perform certain acts.

got the same ting. A VM says ther is a legal complaint and if I want to put a voluntary comment to call them. Yeah that is not how legal stuff works. There is a thing call a service by a process server of a dude with a badge not a dumb phone call with a recorded message

My boyfriend received the same call today. He is freaking out thinking he is going to be sued. I am so glad to find this site. Thank you all for being able to calm his nerves. I think these people should be sued for calling all the time and trying to scare people out of their money.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Scam -on answering machine -caller id# 253-275-3719 -they state your name {their going by caller id's on your line} and say a complaint has been file under your ss# press (8 or 9) to connect or call back this 888# with your file reference#xxxxxx.  They've called before and when I answered they asked for me by name said that person doesn't live here, she goes 'that's funny that's not what the caller id says' I said oh well, she says ok 'ok, good luck in court' I said thank you! She hung up.

Got the same call from 888 283 5647.  No details, just an ominous warning that someone complained about me and that I could call to get the details.   I never return calls that leave no clue about who they are or what they want.

Received call from 760-377-9098.  I got a voice mail stating they have received a complaint filed against my name and social security number.  That if I would like to know the reason for the complaint, or issue a statement, I should call 888-283-5647.  And left a file number too.  Funny thing is, they used my maiden name.  Which means that whatever they are calling on is OUT OF STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS.  These [***] are just trying to scare me into giving them money/info.  Not happening.

My wife just received this call from 888-283-5647 and got her nerves because they said she was getting sued. I tried calling them so I could speak to them since I knew it was BS. They kept me on hold without ever talking to me. People please be careful since these people sound real but are not.

Got the same call.  Call was from 702-757-2052.  Asked me to call 888-283-5647 or press "8".  Said I had a delinquent payday loan and pretty much word for word what everyone else has been posting.  I've been a victim of identity theft so I called back hoping I wasn't going to have to live through that nightmare again.  When I began to ask questions, they became belligerent and hung up on me, refusing to give me any information about the alleged "loan".

My husband received a call from this company and they wanted to confirm my SS# because they are file papers for my arrest if the amount is not paid by 5pm today.  He said they also told him it was a debt from Bank 1 in 1994.  I had no idea what they were talking about so I called them back.  Jacqueline Williams at 888-283-5647 after being on hold and then being hung up on, they called me back ( I never gave them my phn # but they must have caller ID) and wanted to verify the last 4 of my SS#, she had my SS# and read it off to me but I did not confirm it and then she said I owed $1582.00 to Bank 1 and if I was familiar with it.  I told her no but I would like the file and claim sent to me.  She said that I cannot give you that information.  She said the company has tried to contact me numorous time to resolve this matter, I asked her for documentation of these "try's".  She said she does not have them.  She then started getting more aggressive with telling me that I needed to pay this to avoid jail.  I told her that unless I did not get the documentation that I would bring to my lawyer and have her take looked at that this file to go right ahead and file the summons and none of this will hold up in court because it is my right to have the information.  She said that I would be served a summons within 48 hours and wished me luck in court and hung up....

Just received the automated message that everyone else is receiving. Blocked my # and called back when they answered I heard two people whispering. I didn't say a word after a few seconds a male on the other end said " You are such a freaking idiot" and hung up! Obviously some sort of scam. SMH!

Got the same call. I made it real personal. Suggested that the person put this much effort into getting a legitimate job and asked how they would feel if their mother or grandmother was receiving these types of calls. I wished them luck sleeping at night ... guess what, they silently hung up. MAYBE that will at least make one of these people stop and think ... okay maybe not but I can always hope!

Got this call at home caller ID simply gave some city in NV. Next day got this call on my cell from 775-432-0981. Google search tells me this is a spoofed number (also the fact that the message left tells me to call a different number and neither number is associated with a legitimate business is enough for me to never call back). If it is a real complaint mail it to me.
