Nothing showed up on my caller ID but I answered it anyway. When I did, a female asked if the mother or father of [name] was available. Since the name mentioned is the name of my youngest son, I responded, "This is she." There was then a bunch of static on the line. I then heard the sound of another phone number being dialed (like when you are on the line and accidentally hit your "redial" button). Meanwhile, I kept saying "hello." The same female then asked if the mother or father of Warren was available. When I responded that she had just asked me if I was the parent of [name], the line went dead. I am guessing she hung up on me. What really concerns me is that this caller specifically mentioned my son's name. I thought something had happened to my son (who happened to be out playing in the neighborhood at the time.) It was a clue that it wasn't legit when the woman thought she hung up on me and then dialed another number (and asked for the parents of "Warren)." I have no idea what this was about...perhaps it was a marketing company calling to verify telephone numbers of public school students or something. It seems unlikely that she just happened to get the correct name of my son. I am aware that companies sometimes call on behalf of another company to see what times of day a person answers. Regardless, it was RUDE to hang up, it was IGNORANT to scare me into thinking something had happened to my son, and it was ANNOYING to be interrupted by a phone call that I didn't want in the first place. The callers who do this don't bother reading these types of pages. However, I learned my lesson. While I very seldom answer ANY calls that have no number show up on my caller ID (it only showed "ringing"), I will NEVER answer them again. If they are legit, they will call back with a valid number that shows up on my caller ID. I am too polite to type what I would do to this woman if I had her in front of me.
