I got the same call. He said he will get me arrested. I said, I'll wait for that :) He hung up.

got the same robo calll from Julie. Knew immediately it was fake. I have been out of work for the last 7 yrs due to injury on the job and have been on workers comp. I owe no taxes so I knew immediately it was was crap. There should be laws against things like this!!!

i received first call from Julie Smith as well at 1.16pm today. It was recorded message. She stated that she is from IRS and wants to discuss confidential informaton on my Tax and that it's urgent matter and not to ignored the call.  201-241-8625. I didn't call back and the same recorded message repeated 3.50pm.The voice certainly not Indian or pakisthani accent, it is US accent. My phone identifies the number from DC.
I know IRS never calls us on phones and anything they need notify us by US post.

I got the same message from "Julie Smith" from "IRS". I called number 202-241-8625. Indian or Pakistan man answered phone. He wouldn't talk to me. He wanted to talk to my wife. She called back and he told her there was warrant for her arrest, Sheriff's were on the way to her house to arrest her. Unless this was resolved immediately she could be facing 5 years in federal prison . A little research proved this to be a scam. I will report this to IRS and other agencies.

So far they've called us twice in one day.

Any way at all to get them to stop calling us?

Total scam run out of India.  First off, the IRS does not file lawsuits.  If there is a need for court action, the IRS makes a request to the DOJ which makes the final decision whether or  not to go to court-- usually to enforce a collection action of some kind or another.    See:   http://www.irs.gov/irm/part5/irm_05-017-004.html
But this only happens   after a long period of administrative negotiations with the taxpayer.   Before any court case would happen, the taxpayer would be well aware of it.   IRS is never going to cold-call you and tell you that a case is being filed against you  out of the clear blue sky.  
IRS has absolutely no authority over local police.  Local police and law enforcement are NEVER involved in tax disputes.     If law enforcement presence is needed US marshals are available.  
Secondly, over 90 percent of all tax disputes are settled administratively during an appeals process.  Tax disputes are civil matters.
This is just a scam where somebody cold-calls, pretends to be IRS and  tries to scare you into paying money to somebody by Green dot money pak which is untraceable.
Ignore the call and do not return it.  Block the number.

IRS has absoluitely no authority over local law enforcement and local law enforcement is never used in any IRS action.  Total scam preying on people's ignorance of the law.

The are a lot of laws against this sort of thing, but the scammers are located in India and Pakistan and ignore all US law.

No there isn't.  But you can protect yourself with a call blocker.  Also do not pick up on numbers you do not recognize.  These people often spoof area code 202.

Same as most of the posts above. Recorded message (from a robot voice) claiming to be Officer Julie Smith from the IRS. I was already aware of the IRS scam plaguing our country and would never fall for it, but I ALWAYS file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission when I receive unwanted telemarketing calls and scams.

Today I got the call from 202-241-8625. Luckily it went to my voice mail since I was busy. Below is the transcript.

" .... And it's extremely time sensitive. I am officer Julie smith from internal revenue services and hotline to my business is 202-241-8625. Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you. Good bye and take care."

I immediately call my CPA and she quickly responded my query and identified as scam call. I learned that it's the best thing to ***not*** pickup the call from unknown numbers. You can listen to voice message and return if important. That way you can buy sometime to digest the message.

Got a bogus voice mail telling me that I needed to call the IRS back immediately, 10/29/2014 12:06pm - automated voice message:

"I need you or your retained attorney of record to return the call.   The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive.   I am ******** (broken up) Smith from the Internal Revenue Service.   Andthe hotline to my division is 202-241-8625.  I repeat, it is 202-241-8625.  Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you.  Good Bye and take care."

I am NOT calling this number back, but I've left the contact number in my phone under SCAM - DO NOT ANSWER!!

I got a VM from Julie Smith as well.  Man, they must be desperate..

I got the same messages today 10/29/14 I called it back as i was gonna have a little fun with them.. They put me on hold so i just hung up..

I got a call today. i picked up and they said i owe money. I told shove it up your ***. Total bogus.
