What is a grant scam?
The allure of so-called "free money" from the federal government has enabled scam artists to prey on people's hopes by promising access to grants – often for a fee. In reality, federal grants are rarely awarded to individuals seeking personal benefits, and applying for a grant is completely free.
Quick Facts about the Government Grant Process- Government grant applications and information about them are free.
- The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet.
- The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.
- There are no fees associated with applying for a government grant.
- ALL government grants involve an application process to carry out projects with a public purpose and are not intended for personal use.
- You will not be contacted by the government to make you pay for a grant.

Government Grant Scams - Grace| 1 replyI received a call from 365.157.6238 that then told me to call a 202.618.1792 and give a code she gave me. I asked her what agency she was with for this grant. I also told them I never applied for a grant.

- Kat* replies to GraceIF this were legitimate (it's not!) the government wouldn't call from what is clearly a spoofed phone number. NO area code or prefix in North America begins with a 1 or a 0.
- DarleneOfficer Grace Miller (she sounds Philippine) called saying she is from Health & Human Services, 1225 19th Street NW, Ste 710, Washington DC 20036, saying I should receive $9,000 and that I should call 202.618.1792, and gave an Approval ID # to use when I call. Sounds very legitimate but instincts told me not to call because I did not apply for any loan or grant (she didn't say it was either) or free money. I went online to look up Health & Human Services and left an email message and then looked up the number and found this website. No need for me to call that number.

- Aimie ArmasI got a call from lady named Olivia from this number stating that I was picked for a $9,000 Grant by the government and honestly I'm pretty sure it's a scam I didn't do anything that she said to do she said to go to CVS and get a eBay card and put $100 on it and then I would get $5,350 or if I put a $150 I would get $7,350 or if I put $200 I would get the full $9,000 so just trying to see if this is a for sure scam?
