Called and said they were the IRS....

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). reported to call number to avoid consequences

They called from 936-562-3651 leaving me a voicemail and it showed up as a TX, USA number. I called back the 202 number that was left not realizing It could be a scam.  The message said this was my final notice and the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me. I will be reporting it to all authorities noted on this website.

This guy called said his name was Officer Gary Wilson Badge# IC3720 from the IRS, stating that my husband had a lawsuit filed against and now there was an arrest warrant issued for him... I was like WTF???  I asked this guy why haven't we received and paperwork from the IRS if this is the case, he said numerous notices have been sent out & told him he was lying... I asked why haven't they contacted our CPA, who has been doing our taxes every yr since 2000, again he had no answer....   I am calling the local authorities to file a complaint.... Did not give them any information at all....

Just got a call from these scammers.I have a recording and will turn it over to the local authorities .

They left a message saying I was having a law suit filed against me by the irs. Called them back at 2026181981. Person answered with heavy Indian accent. I verified my phone # and he varified my name. Than he hung up. Called back several times and finally got an answer. Asked who it was and was told "your father from another mother".

Final notice to call IRS regarding a case against me.  

Received a message on my answering machine saying this was a final notice from the IRS and they were initiating a law suit against me. Said to call 202-618-1981 to talk to their department.

Thank you for this information! I didn't think it was legit, but wanted to be sure. I wish there was a way to stop this!
