This is not real, do not be intimidated!
I just want to spread the word on my experience with these people. They do sound very legitimate and professional when they call you. I was very scared the first time these people called. This is not the only number they use. I had multiple people calling claiming to be from a lawyers office, the courthouse, the police station. I hired an ACTUAL attorney to look into this and what she found was this number and these people to be SCAMMERS who steal info from actual debt collectors. There is no such thing as being taken to jail for a debt as these people claim. The attorneys office they claim to be from does not exist. Change your number or ignore the calls. They will eventually get tired and stop.

I didn't receive a phone call but I did receive an email. I was scared for a few minutes thinking i was going to go to jail, when I started to realize that something was wrong with the email.  The font sizes where all different sizes, it gave a Washington state address but a Washington DC phone number.  I called the number and it went straight to voice mail with an ext. number that was different than the on email. When I Googled the address it was a different guy name for the attorney general.  I then realized it was a scam n just Googled too see who the number belonged to. I will be sending an email to the  attorney general office they claim to be apart of and let them know what Has been going on.

E mail is never a valid way of serving or notifying someone of a court hearing or any legal matter.  Make complaints here also as well as read up on your rights:
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you can't be arrested for it.  No law enforcement agency is going to cold call you and tell you you're going to jail.  The calls are absurd on their face.  Indian and Pakistani scammers trying to scare money out of people.

Don't bother calling! Attach the email to a complaint filed with IC3, the cyber crimes division of the FBI! Read both BigA's and CWG40's posts also.
