You can't be awarded a Grant if you did not apply for it. Its free to apply and free to receive one if awarded.
What is a grant scam?
The allure of so-called "free money" from the federal government has enabled scam artists to prey on people's hopes by promising access to grants – often for a fee. In reality, federal grants are rarely awarded to individuals seeking personal benefits, and applying for a grant is completely free.
Quick Facts about the Government Grant Process- Government grant applications and information about them are free.
- The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet.
- The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.
- There are no fees associated with applying for a government grant.
- ALL government grants involve an application process to carry out projects with a public purpose and are not intended for personal use.
- You will not be contacted by the government to make you pay for a grant.

- TaraI got a call from an unknown number 1-202-618-9425 from a man with a foreign accent/broken English and hard to hear from background noise, telling me I was chosen for an $8000.00 grant because I have no criminal background. Ask me how I would like to receive the money with options of credit card, direct deposit, money gram, and western union. After choosing western union I was ask how old I was and given an ID # and a return phone number to call and give my ID# to them and follow instructions. When I called the return # 1-202-618-9425 it was a recording to state my name so that Google voice could verify. I declined to respond and hung up as I know they could then use my google voice to access my information. I googled the number and found this site along with others confirming my suspicion it was a scam.
