- TAN HOSame thing with me. THey call me in the morning saying that i owe money and that I have 30 mins to resolve or they'll send out an arrest warrant. I told them I'll talk with my lawyer and they said that they don't have time to wait. I even ask the guy to give me my social security number because it sound suspicious to me but they wouldn't give it to me because they said that they cant provide that info over the private line which makes no sense to me since everywhere you go, they always ask for the last four of your social. One thing that everyone should know is that the IRS always use a 1(800) number and that they'll never call you. They always send out mail directly to your house. Call back the guy and gave him a new [***] for getting me riled up and making phone call to my financial accountant and lawyer. PLEASE DO NOT PICK UP THIS PHONE CALL.
- Debra| 1 replythey called and said that I committed tax fraud, which I knew was not true and they ask for information I refused to give. If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - RustyI received another call from 202-738-1122. Received one several months ago so I knew it was a scam and did not answer it. If I do not recognize the number, I do not pick it up. As I suspected, they did not leave a message. The last time I received the call, they called back a couple of times and the last time I told them I was the FBI and would be at their door in 1/2 hour to arrest them and they quickly hung up.
- nikki pearsonCrazy foreigner telling me I have a warrant
- Jenn| 1 replyThis ****** ******* foreigner called to tell me I committed fraud on my taxes and there was a warrant for my arrest! I began laughing at the idiot cause they had already tried this scam on my deceased father's phone! So I decided to entertain this fool! He then began to say disgusting sexual comments! I recorded the conversation. Then the conversation turned scary when he knew I have a teenage daughter.. Knew her age...and first name! He began telling me what he was going to do to her!! I certainly didn't find it amusing anymore and hung up! I reported the conversation to everybody and anybody I could think of! I also blocked the 202 number and he continues to call at the very least 4x a day from different numbers!!! If only I could get my hands on this POS...I know I can't... But I would CERTAINLY then have a warrant for my arrest for MURDER!!!!!!
