I received an "unknown" number on my cell phone. Someone with a thick Indian accent said I had been given free grant money by the government for $7000. Would I like to receive it through credit card, bank deposit or cash. I said neither as the government should not be giving free money away. The caller told me to call Kelly Jones at 202-738-1256 for confirmation using a code AK005. When I called, there was no answer.

I got the same call with the unknown number, and said the same thing that the goverment wants to give me 7000 grand money, and to call the number, to get ahold of kelly jones, the line would ring, then get busy all the suddent.

just  a  fyi  that    there  is  a  huge and   never  ending  amount  of  fraud  and  scam  calls    from the   "  202 "  area  code"............

some  are landlines...many  are  cell phones...some  are  spoofed  and  linked  to  offshore foreign countries !!!!
we've  traced  back  most  of  these  numbers  to  offshore  foreign    call centers and  scammers  working  out  of , but  not  limited  to.....  in  INDIA /  THAILAND /  AFRICA /  JAMAICA    ETC....

***   THESE    LOW  LIFE  LOSER  SCUMS  ALSO   IMPERSONATE   US  GOV'T  AGENCIES AND   OFFICIALS  (   CIA  /  FBI  /  IRS   )    AMONG  MANY  OTHERS..........


they  will  at  times  leave   obviously  fake  messages   that   they  " have  caught  you "  in  some  type  of  mysterious   drug   operation  and    related   fake  stories  / messages"...........(  just  one  of  numerous     fake  stories  )....others  noted  below.............

here's a  few  other  numbers  posted  from  the   same  area  code  offering a  wide  variety  of  scams  /  collecting  for  non  existant  "  payday  loans "....free  money / scam  giveaways /  $1,000's  in  free  gov't  money.........  etc  etc.....stories  change  out  all the  time......and  the  usual  nonsense!!!

**   mysteriously  call to  claim  they  have  several  thousand  of  dollars  to  send  you....just  provide  you  bank  account and  credit  card   right  away   etc etc.........scam scam

several  of  these are  the  usual   long  ongoing  scams   such  as  :  you  have  won a  free  walmart /  bestbuy  gift  card....or  you  have  won a  free  ipad  etc......all  long  ongoing  scams

I received the same message about a $7000 grant that never had to be paid off. I told her I was not giving anyone my account numbers and to just send me a check as she already had my address somehow.
The only difference is that a name and number did show up on my caller i.d.; Carl Steibel at 770-926-5021.

I received the same call.  When I called the number, someone told me to hang on and then they hung up.  When I tried to call back, the number was busy.

I don't get this.  I didn't give them any info, but my age, which is available on-line anyway.  What is the scam?

OMG I just got this call today saying the same $7000 and I never had to pay back since I'm one of the 17,000 people that they picked.. wtf kind of crap is that? Somehow they have my home address but I'll be leaving that place real soon so whew! I'm glad someone wrote about this the number was for Kelly Johns or something Senior account manager. This India lady was telling me she called from US Federal Government Grant Department. I'm just like Hmmmm... Kinda weird for our government to give us some money back. and yes she called from and outside US number be careful!!

Just got a call about an hour ago said I was one of 1700 to get this 7000 grant. Im thinking maybe its a blessing seeing as I lost my job need to pay rent etc etc. They said its because I havent filed for bankruptcy and have a clean record. Im in the national gaurd im like sweet so I start talking the woman no name calls me by my first and last name tells me my address asked for age it all seemed legit except for that damn accent. kinda sounded russian or something foreign.I was told to call kelly johns to verify and i did give my card number which i shouldnt have done but it was empty anyway maybe had 2 bucks. its when she starts talking about western union to verify that i get real suspicious. she said that i had to deposit $310 before i could get the money but that it would be refunded. it just didnt make sense, if i send my ma western union she doesnt pay I do to send the money. I searched online and find scam scam scam same number same name

I got the same call saying that I was granted $7000 from the government. I recently had surgery and that cost me so much because I don't have insurance. There is an option which the government will pay your medical expenses for whom doesn't have enough income and I applied for that(this is a real one). So I was really expecting to receive some money or any information from the government about it, then I got this call!! I thought I was saved. They also give me confirmation ID# AK005. I gave them information which I shouldn't. But same as everyone, the phone was somehow hang up while I was talking to this Ms. Kelly Jones person when she was telling me about western union or whatever. I tried to call back many times but I couldn't reach them. Then I realized that maybe this doesn't sound right then I found this page. I called my bank and blocked my account and change the number. Thank God no one didn't touch my money yet.

i got the same call!! but somehow they got all my info about where i'm living. what they didn't know is how old i am and i told them my age. But for the option of receiving i say in cash cause i didn't want to give them my account number. WOOT good thing i said that, and after that they told me to call kelly about receiving the 7000. I call and talk to her and she told me to hang on and then it hang up. I try to call back but the line is always busy... so i got kinda worried so i check this number online and this is what i found. woot now i feel more relax, i but i hope nothing wrong with just giving my age...

It is a scam. You give them your account number; they have access to all of your money, current and future. Hang up the phone. If it sounds too good to be true it is. My person was viola keys, her numer was 202-738-1256

I recieved a call the last few days, from CA. I do not know anyone in CA so I was cluless as to who it could be. I decided to answer the phone today and the same story as everyone on here. Just a different (202) number.... (202)738-1774 Be carefull

I just recevied this call today. And yea it was a deep indian man voice and told me that I won 7000 for prerty much been a good citizen and said the way I won The money was by paying my taxes not filling bankrupcy no criminal background...  and like every one else different 202# and they told me I get the money in cash. . But I have to pay 310 western union and i would have a. Total of 7310 never done it. . and they told me that 1700 other people got this to

They had me jumpin for joy until they told me i had to pay to recieve free money wtf its free y am i payin for it and wasup wit this western union bullsh*t im pretty sure the government wuld have an english speaker and a more legitimate way of sendin money instead of western union, wat spelled out fraud to me in big letters was that miss viola keys was persistant in makin sure i didnt tell western union who i was dealin with odd bt true but fukkn [***] image the things i culdve done wit that money....

The call came in as "Unknown". The caller had a thick Asian accent and said he was from the US Federal Government Grant Department and I had been awarded a grant. I knew it was a scam, and decided to play it for a while. I told that if he knew all about me to jut send the information to my residence. He told me not to mess with the US Federal Government, or he would send the police to my house to arrest me. I encouraged him to go ahead and do so.

I have all my phone numbers on the "do not call ". registry but I still receive SCAM calls on my landline.  Usually some middle eastern person saying they work for "Microsoft".  The last guy said my Windows license expired so I let him remote access a "virtual machine" of Windows 7 I had on my laptop and he uploaded a batch script that created a visual basic warning that my machine was infected as well as changing registry settings that made all the internet browsers have a warning that my machine was infected.
