They have you go down to a Wal-Mart Store and ask you to pay a refundable security deposit of 250.00 USD.  They claim it is so they can release the 9,000 USD promised during the phone conversation.   The sad reality is, there is no 9,000 USD and you just sent some [***] 250 bucks for no reason.  It is a scam!!!!  Genious really, i wonder how many people they have defrauded out of $250?

I received a phone call today from an unavailable number. They told me my number was randomly chosen by the government to receive a $9,000 grant. They wanted to know my name, I would not tell them. They wanted to know how I would like to received the $. I did not want to give them any account information, so I told them Western Union. They then told me I would have to call the Account Manager at 202-738-1426 to get all the details worked out. They also told me if the line was busy, to keep calling, because I wasn't the only person who would be getting this grant. I never called the number. The person told me his name was Mack Owen.

Yes, I got a call. Obviously a scam from the first moment he mentioned the government giving a grant at random when all Obama wants is to make everyone poor. Except him and the elite rich Dems of course.

And an Indian accent did not help his credibility. I do not believe them when I call AT&T. Why believe them now!!!!!

    Informational post:

As per the Federal Grants website at http://www.grants.gov

YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OFFER YOU A GRANT.
The government does not contact people to offer them money. If you do qualify for a government grant, the government does not request payment for it.

THERE ARE NO FEES ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING FOR A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
Providing financial information to prove that you qualify for a government grant is typical, but you should never pay money to apply for a grant. People who run scams often claim to provide help and sometimes claim to be "federal government" officials, don't be fooled by these scams that request money from you.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANTS INVOLVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS
If you have not submitted an application for a government grant and someone claims you have been awarded one, it's a scam. Grant money is not given over the phone for a fee. In order to qualify for a grant you must apply for the specific opportunity that you are qualified to apply for.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS ARE AWARDED FOR EXPLICIT OPPORTUNITIES
Government Grants are typically awarded to states, cities, educational institutions, nonprofits and other organizations to fund research and other projects.

GOVERNMENT GRANT APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION IS FREE
Be cautious of offers that ask for your personal information (especially financial) when requesting a fee to access grant information. You can always access free information about government grants and other benefits at Grants.gov and Govbenefits.gov

If you get this call, please report it to:

    Suspicious
Yes I just received the call with the same information as above from 202-738-1426.  I thought I would try to talk her down and even told her I would not even give her my name or any information, because I thought it was a scam.  What the frustrating part is, I had to keep having her repeat everything because of her accent.  That gives it away right there! If it was the Government office, number one they would know my name and two would make sure their employees spoke English!!!
All I could get out of her was this phone number and a name of Alena.
I will report it to the above link.
    Thanks for posting it.

Please don't go for this.  They say they are in Istanbul (Turkey)  If this is a US grant, why is it being processed in a foreign country?  They will require you to hand over $250.00 first and then call them to release the $9K.  Don't be fooled my friend, this is a totaly scam and you will never see your money again.

    unknown number
I received a call from a woman claiming to be from the US treasury with a grant for me.  I was suspicious from the start.  She claimed that I was one of fifteen thousand chosen because I pay my taxes and have no criminal history. She said I had three options in which to receive the money, on a disposable card, to my bank account or as cash through a Western Union.  I said Western Union not really believing her, she gave me a code to give when calling (202) 738- 1426.  I immediately looked up the number and found this page.  I knew better that to give my account information and needless to say I never called the number given to me.
