Numerous calls come through 678-901-1232 in Cedar Town, Ga.  They tell you that since you are a good taxpayer that they will award a grant to you of $9200.  They give you a code GG1008 and a Wash, D.C. telephone number to call back 202-738-1453.  When you call the number, it's rather bizarre.  They start talking with you, and when they realize that you're on to their scam, they hang up.  Someone from the FBI needs to zone in on these scamsters.

Same #'s called me. They barely speak English.

I hear there whole speach, then tell them to give it to someone else, I have too much money already!! LOL

i got the same call today,they spoke in a strange language and gave me the same talk,for 320.oo id get 9200 dollers,i tried to call them back from a different cell phone at the 202 number no answer a few min later i recieved a call back from them,when i answered fbi agency they hung up,its been said that texas people are not that smart well the jig is up,i got em i called the local police dept and an investigation is under way take that cedar town ga, the number they called from was 2029011453,it came thru 6789011232,is any body out their listening do not fall for this scam.im retired and have nothing to do so im having fun with this organization  guess the scammer got scammed

My disabled mother got a unsolicited phone call today offering an "unadvertised secret" grant to low income people, selecting only a few people from this area as part of a stimulus. Caller refers mom to another toll free number with a grant number to claim in the amount of $9200. Number to call was 202 738 1453, grant number: gg1015. Told mom not to call. I smell a filthy rat....hope she listens. :(

i got the same call today and when we started asking questions they just repeated whatever they had just said and told me to go to western union and send a money transfer of 329 and they would refund me 9529. they also said not to mention the deal to the western union cuz they would try to charge you out of pocket expenses and they didn't want you to pay any expenses but wanted me to make a deposit for them to send me money. we got an address for them at 200 independence ave in d.c.its all bull. the government does not ask for payment up front for money they want to give you nor do they use western union.

Just received call on my cell from number 000-000-0000. They also provided same information as the above listed statements.  I listened and asked several questions and they kept repeating. I asked for his name and he said it was Stanley Parker.  His accent did not sound like a man named Stanley.  When he said to go to Western Union and pay 320.00, I said to him why would the Federal Treasury ask me to pay that to get my 9200.00?  He said they will pay it back within 10 minutes at the Western Union agency the full 9,520.00.  I asked for him to send me a email verifying our conversation.  He said he would put my grant on hold and I could call him anytime.  Then I asked for a letter before I would send money and he said he would do that by end of month????  I asked what is the address on file he has and he said I need to provide that at Western Union.  THIS IS COMPLETE FRAUD AND I HOPE NO ONE EVER SENDS MONEY FROM A PHONE CALL!!!!

here's a  few  other  numbers  posted  from  the   same  area  code  offering a  wide  variety  of  scams  /  fake  emails and  scams  after  posting  something  on   craigslist   (  old  scam  )  ...... collecting  for  non  existant  "  payday  loans "....free  money / scam  giveaways /  calling  on  behalf  of  a  humane  society..... $1,000's  in  free  gov't  money.........  etc  etc.....stories  change  out  all the  time......and  the  usual  nonsense!!!

202-738-1453 this number called stating I had been chosen for a government grant why are they still able to do this and what is our gov doing to stop tis I want answers

I just got a call from Blocked tel No. stating that I had been chosed for a government grant and my grant approval ID is GG1008 and call back No is 202 738 1453.   I was told that I'm chosed because I've been apyment my bills on time and has no criminal records.  I  asked what the name of their office was and they hang up on me.
Earlier today I also saw a missed called from tel. no "Unknown" and a few days ago got a missed call from Tel. No. 000 000 0000.  This is a SCAM which needs to be stopped.

I got this call too. My code is GG1002. I was told to call 202-738-1453.  When I called, Oscar Perez told me to go to a Western Union and call him for the name I was to make a $330 deposit to. Oscar said he would stay on the phone with me until the transaction was completed and it would take about 15 minutes.

Since I've never used Western Union, I called to ask how I would make this deposit for my $9200 IRS grant.  They told me several people have done this and it's a scam.

I just got a call too. The ID approval is GS801 and the phone number is 202-436-9977. I tall him there is no free luch in this country and them he asked me for more details and I did not provide.

I received a call today regarding the same scam. $9,200 if you call and give them the code GG1020 - you can hear all the other people in the background.. Unbelievable!  Why fall for this!

I got a call from this number 202-738-1453. IT IS A SCAM!!!! They say you have been selected to receive a grant from the US Government. They want you to take $320 to the local Western Union and call them back you will get your $9200 back along with the deposit. I talked to the local police and they said it is a big scam and to let friends know. PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS.

They called from a blocked number. She had a very thick accent and was hard to understand.
She informed me that I was selected to receive $9000
For a government grant. Sounded like she was reading off a script.
She even attempted to sound legit by asking "I bet you're wondering why
You are receiving this kind of money?"
She then went on to give me a grant confirmation number: gg1004
And told me to all 202 738 1453 as soon as we hung up.
I never called it. No such thing as free money. I don't know how they got my number but
I know it's not hard these days.

I was called by an operator and was told that the Federal Grant Department and/or U.S. Government Grant Department was calling because my number was one of 1600 who had been randomly selected for a grant for 99,200 dollars. it was a once in a lifetime opportunity I was told and that I needed to call 202-738-1453. I was told that I would need to do this immediately and talk with the account manager and give him a code. the crazy thing is i was just on the grants.gov website the other day looking at money for college when this happened. I thought it might be the same but don't be fooled. it is a SCAM!!!

I've had these calls before, and anyone who has a brain will know that this is a scam.
Reasons why:
*US is Trillions of dollars in debt - which obviously means that the government has the money to make these kinds of grants
*They have you send money before receiving money - really people? and it's by WESTERN UNION! Sheesh
*The calls I get don't come from a valid number: (000) 000-0000, 253-429-454, 15#, etc. - Pretty sure one of the numbers had letters show on my caller ID.
*The caller always seems to be from India or somewhere in that area.

If I'm in a good mood I like to mess with them thinking that they got me. I'll also repeat the same question making them think I'm just the dumb. I'll just word it differently each time. Example: If I just send you the money, you'll then send me my grant? - then I'll ask it: You'll send me the grant if I send you the money? - then - So the grant money is sent to me after I send you (amount)? and so on.

Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot you can do when people call to scam you nowadays. But, just go with the flow and mess with them. Stay happy, stay safe - and don't get scammed. Best of luck!
