Glad you didn't fall for the scam!  More info here:

As per the Federal Grants website at http://www.grants.gov

YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OFFER YOU A GRANT.
The government does not contact people to offer them money. If you do qualify for a government grant, the government does not request payment for it.

THERE ARE NO FEES ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING FOR A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
Providing financial information to prove that you qualify for a government grant is typical, but you should never pay money to apply for a grant. People who run scams often claim to provide help and sometimes claim to be "federal government" officials, don't be fooled by these scams that request money from you.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANTS INVOLVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS
If you have not submitted an application for a government grant and someone claims you have been awarded one, it's a scam. Grant money is not given over the phone for a fee. In order to qualify for a grant you must apply for the specific opportunity that you are qualified to apply for.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS ARE AWARDED FOR EXPLICIT OPPORTUNITIES
Government Grants are typically awarded to states, cities, educational institutions, nonprofits and other organizations to fund research and other projects.

GOVERNMENT GRANT APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION IS FREE
Be cautious of offers that ask for your personal information (especially financial) when requesting a fee to access grant information. You can always access free information about government grants and other benefits at Grants.gov and Govbenefits.gov

Just received a call from these people.  Obvious electronically generated voice stating that I am being sued by the IRS and this is the last time they will call.  Wanted me to call 202-738-1811.  ALTHOUGH I KNOW THIS IS A SCAM, IT BOTHERS ME THAT THEY ARE SO BOLD AS TO POSE AS THE IRS AND NOONE IS DOING ANYTHING TO SHUT THEM DOWN - THERE WILL BE NO REPERCUSSIONS.  JUST PATHETIC.  DON'T CALL - DON'T FALL FOR IT.

I just received the same phone call saying the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me.  THIS IS A SCAM.  I work for a very reputable accounting firm and we receive calls from clients everyday and have to tell them these calls are scams.  I guess the attorney general on TV saying "THE IRS WILL NEVER CALL YOU" is not reassuring enough. Please don't even give up your time calling these crooks back.  We had one lady who came into our office crying because she got the call and was at the bank getting ready to give them her money and thank God didn't have enough in her account.  We reassured her it was a scam and you would have thought she won the lottery. The sad thing is that so many people are apparently scared of the IRS and so the monsters in foreign countries prey on that fear.  Once again...THE IRS WILL NEVER CALL YOU.  Call your local IRS office if you really think this isn't a scam.  They can be very nice people.  Oh and did I mention THE IRS WILL NEVER CALL YOU!!  (They only correspond through the US post office-not even via email). Please do not fall for this hoax.

Yes the same call. If you have ever had legal dealings you will know that no one gets sued by phone.  I got a garbled scratchy recording.  Another indication of not being the real thing.
