- Mike-in-MD replies to keedo| 1 replyNo, it is a scam. Possibly a collection agency but more likely they are running an extortion racket posing as an IRS agent. The IRS alway uses the US Mail to contact taxpayers about tax issues and would never demand payment over the phone. If any caller demands payment via a MoneyPak or Green Dot card or that it must be wired via Western Union to stop an arrest, you can bet it is a scam.

- Dil from VA| 1 replyLike others left message that Officer Adam Scotts is speaking to call back or your attorney and not to ignore this call..I called and first he checked from me that I am not an
IRS Officer or some one of my family working in IRS.Than he told me that I have filed IRS returns fraudulently
and said that tomorrow no need to go to work as police is coming to arrest you.For a minute he read in details IRS Laws with sections and rules for punishment like arrest jail termination of service and freeze of bank accounts and said to me not to intrupt him during this course of speech.Than he told me to make an out of court settlement and pay which I refused. He threatned to be ready for cosquence and ended the call.
After an hour he called again and left the same message .By the time I go through the TEL DIR of WASH DC
(202) on line and found that it is not a IRS number and did not called back.
This person should be arrested as he is trying to cheat and defame our IRS. - Sir Bedevere replies to Dil from VAWell, report him to the IRS then: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Don%E2%80%99t-be-Scammed-by-Fake-IRS-Communications
- Macher from NebraskaI received a voice message from a guy with an extremely strong accent, he identified himself as Officer Steve Williams from the Sheriff's Dept. He stated that he had received a federal complaint against my name and S.S.#. He had my name wrong. He then said that I needed call Officer John Shumacher with the Federal Bureau at 202-888-0175 to look into this matter. He further said that to avoid getting a notorized warrant for my arrest, he will be sending immediately a formal investigation to my doorstep. He then started to laugh, which he quickly subdued and ended his call by saying to be ready to address this problem. What an Idiot, too bad I wasn't home to talk with him, would have loved to have goaded him on with questions of my own and thrown it all back in his face. Officer Steve Williams indeed!! This is a complete scam!!!
