Received "IRS lawsuit filed" scam message on landline phone answering machine 3/29.  Am located in Mid-Atlantic region.

Got a phone call with a robo message "The IRS is opening a lawsuit in your name, select 1 or immediately call 817-876-6391" It's a scam. If you owe IRS which we donot, they will mail notices and letters via certified mail. IRS does not call you. It's up to you to call them after they send you something in the mail. I don't know of any phone numbers at the IRS or any other government entity that begin 817-876...it only shows up on my caller ID as a spoofed Washington DC phone number 202-888-3102. Speaking of spoofed numbers these jack ass scammers have all kinds of phone tactics. We've seen inbound calls on our call history with our own phone number. We have seen such a huge increase in this kind of crap ever since we have had Comcast. Their phone system is not in the least bit secure and they wonder why I refuse to have them handle my home security system.

This is a company line that was connected nearly 2.5 years ago. Someone has SPOOFED (google this term if unfamiliar) our number and is making calls FROM this number (ours!). We are NOT the IRS and a few have called, we've answered (some very irate folks as you can imagine when threatened by an IRS scam). We explained that someone they have hacked our number and are making calls originating from it as if they have our phone! It's horrible for us as well ---we apologize for your inconvenience and stress, we have the same! All the best, NOT THE IRS and from 202 888 3102 WE, the OWNER of this number are NOT making such calls.
