These folks claim to be from the US Grants Dept.  They say you have a $3000.00 grant and only need to go to the nearest Western Union facility with cell phone, photo ID and $150 in cash.  They can't tell you the name of the grant or what government they work for other than the US Grants Dept.  You qualify for the grant because you pay your taxes and bills on time.  They also use an alternate phone number 975 962 2048 and are located in Seattle Washington.

I received the same call from the alleged US GRANT DEPT. The caller Paul Lewis asked me to call 206-866-5654 to verify his contact information. I decided to research the number before calling back. The call told me I was eligible for a $3000.00 grant!!! Do not fall for this. IT'S A SCAM.

I Was Almost Scammed by these same people today..I received two calls today the first from Paul Lewis and the second from David K-uman..I was given a loan approval number the number listed above and a physical address of 302 High School Road Bainbridge Washington 98110..Paul said he was from Quick Loans and David said he was from EZ Loans and I was told all I had to do was take $145 to a local Money Gram for a security deposit and within 5 minutes I would receive $1000 plus the$145 back. I was told I would make $145 payments on the 20th day of the month for the next 8 months. I knew something was wrong it was just too good to be true so I grabbed my brothers cell phone and called the number they gave me back pretending that I had a missed call from them earlier in the day and that I was inquiring about what type of business they were. The man who answered with a simple hello said he was Robin (but who also sounded alot like Paul and David) said that the company was US Grants and that I was the luckiest person today because they had free money for me from the government (mind you I had given no personal info to this point just that I had received a missed call from them) When I confronted Robin about the situation and how I knew something was going on and why would US Grants be calling me about being approved for a loan. He got quite upset and tongue-tied trying to explain away that there were two separate departments one for grants and one for loans so I asked for the loan department number or ext.(since normal people would have 2 different numbers or lines for 2 different depts. He got very rude said some harsh words and that if I was not interested in the loan then nevermind and hung up on me..I jumped on the computer and started researching and these guys are scamming lots of different people all over the country and need to be stopped. They have quite a few different numbers they have scammed people on here with same area code just different numbers, If anyone has any other details to how we can stop these jerks please lets do it and stop these guys. Its terrible that they are scamming desperate struggling people just to make money.

I reported the fraud to this link https://oig.hhs.gov/fraud/report-fraud/index.asp I don't know if that is the correct place but I figured I would at least get my voice out there.

I just got a call from a guy named "Eric" who gave me his i.d number #8376 and a phone number to call back #206-866-5654. He claimed he was from the U.S governement and that I had won $5000 because I paid my taxes and didn't file bankruptcy. He told me that I needed to go to the nearest money grahm place and asked when I could get there. I said 5 hours and he seemed dissapointed. Then there were a few things he said I needed to bring. First he said my i.d and asked what ID I would have and I said "my passport" He then asked for the name on it. I told him if he was from the government than he should know it. He said he just had to confirm. I still wouldn't give him my name and told him I was thought it was a scam and I felt uncomfortable. He tried to keep me on the line. He asked for my birthdate which, I am sad to say, I gave him, then he asked for my name again and I said since I confirmed my DOB I don't need to confirm my name. He then said he wanted to get to know me better and take me out. I thought I miss heard him because he had a thick accent. When he repeated himself he said "I want to be your friend, are you married?" I told him yes and he hung up.

A man with an Indian accent told my husband on his cell phone that he was awarded $5000 due to an overpayment in his bankruptcy. Was told he could collect his money with a valid ID at Walmart. Wanted my husband's diver's license or passport number first. My husband got his phone number and said he would call back when off work. I called from our landline and got a recorded message that no one was available. I told my husband it had to be a scam. After looking at other posts on the internet, I see that it is.

Received call from unknown number.  When I answered, an unknown person stated that he was calling from US Grants Dept.  Said that 17 people from all states won grants because the US government has extra cash.  (What a laugh!  With the deficit as high as it is I think...NOT!!!)  Told me I would receive $7,000 grant that I did not have to pay back and that I was one of the lucky ones due to limited numbers from each state.

I asked him for his name.  Caller stated JOHN SMITH.  I asked him for his phone number he was calling from.  I was told 206-866-5654.  I asked for his DOB.  Caller laughed at this and asked why I needed his DOB.  I informed him to verify who he is.

I informed caller I would need the Control # and the name of the company that is issuing the check.  Caller could NOT give information needed to me.

Caller told me that I needed to go to the nearest Western Union immediately to pick it up.  I asked why immediately?  Caller told me it would take him 15 minutes to deposit it.  I informed caller I could not pick it up until after 5pm due to no transportation.  Caller stated that would be to late.  I asked caller why that would be too late because Western Union is still open at that time?  Caller stated they could not deposit the money until I accepted.  Sounds like a money laundering scam to me.

Caller told me to call him back tomorrow.

I asked caller for his true name because John Smith is a probable alias.  Caller hung up on me at this point.
