said they were from "windows computers"  and claimed that there was a virus on my computer- I told them they were a fake company and I would report them, they hung up.

claimed to be calling from Microsoft. Said if I used my home PC in the last 2 weeks that I downloaded virus. What was interesting is that they asked for me by name (full name)

Just called on my cell phone - Hung up after I answered. Didn't say a word.  I let out a loud scream on the home phone that would have woken the dead last time they called.  I am prepared with my "XcuseBox" when they call back which will first play static then play that horrible tone that you get when you reach a disconnected phone number and then the recording "you have reached a number that has been disconnected or is no longer in service"  "If you have reached this message in error, please contact the operator", then the horrible tone again"...   I got this as a stocking stuffer one year and just found it. (plays a baby crying; fire engine siren; construction noise; airplane taking off; several excuses to shorten or avoid a phone call... I put a new battery in it and have been waiting for a telemarketer to call.  My other trick is having my fax machine accept the call but that isn't as convenient.  If they reach a voicemail message, they will continue to call back.  If  you answer, and ask to be taken off the list, they call back.  DNC Registry doesn't work on telemarketers that don't follow the rules - the ones that are located outside the US most likely or the ones that use robotic-callers.  We had a "Tele-zapper" that disconnected a robotic-caller but my husband misplaced it after painting about 5 years ago.  Telemarketers ramped up the last 2 years something fierce. The FTC should require all US Phone companies to provide each consumer the ability to block telemarketer calls at no charge since they are allowing the telemarketers access to harass the consumers and to ultimately scam the unsuspecting consumers many of which are trusting elderly consumers who believe that if they are contacted through their phone company that they can trust the caller.  Those days are gone - same with products sold on the TV.  My elderly Mom thinks what is sold on TV and over the phone has to be legitimate and the health products or infomercial products have all been FDA tested/approved-and all work as they say they do by the people who are the "satisfied customers" advertising the product "it really does work...for reals" from a TV diet pill add...

They just called here and said they were going to crash my computer from an offsite location.

same deal, knew me by name and said that my computer was sending them "error messages".  I asked which computer are you talking about?  they put my on hold and I heard a snippet of someone coaching the caller and I said I don't know what you're talking about and they hung up but have called four times since then.    I don't know how they knew me by name because I thought my phone was unlisted but who knows.

Same as others.  Someone named David (subcontinent accent)  asked if I thought I had a virus on my computer because they had evidence of it.  I asked for the company name which they rattled off - multisyllable - they did know my first name which also surprised me as others have stated.   My question to others reporting them is whether there have been further repercussions (i.e. computer hacking?) since receiving this call...??  Five minutes later another call came in with an "unknown" number and left no message - my guess it's the same group - no?!

Got two call from them today.  First one, no one responded when I answered.  Second time, some Sub-continental woman told me that my computer had been sending them messages that it was downloading "unwanted" files.  Sounds pretty BOGUS to me.  She couldn't even finish her pitch and hung up!  Never said who she was or where she was calling from.  Made my skin crawl when I heard that gawd-awful accent "speak" my name.

This number has called my phone several times this week. I'd answer,  there's never a response. I then hang up.

I just received a phone call from the Tech support about my computer is sending a milieus virus and their number is 1-209-565-8556.  I told the technician I have a new computer with McAfee software.  The technician was very push and insistent for letting him into my computer and repair and removed the milieus virus from my computer and a fee might be charge.  I told the technician that his phone was breaking up and I would lose the conversation.  The technician said he would call me back on another line.

This gave me time to google research this number online and people are reporting this has a SCAM.  The technician finally called back on another phone # 1-323-300-8205 and I told the technician not to call this number again because of his scam.  I also stated that I will report him to the Attorney General in Maine and he was trying to sweet talk himself that this is not a scam and I told him not to call this number again.  He hung up.  Now I will report this to the News Media to make people aware of the scam.    

This number has called twice in the last week.  No one there.  I blocked my number *67 and called the number back.  It is a Magic Jack landline in Stockton, CA.  The message was that the mailbox was full and couldn't accept any more messages.  PIA to get these calls.

Got the same exact call about 5 minutes ago advising me that my computer was sending them error messages and that they wanted to fix my system. I believe he asked for me by name but the connection was horrible and his Indian/Pakistani accent was very thick.

Knowing it was a scam from the start I played along and told the guy "Oh, my gosh... how awful. That sounds scary? I am so glad you called." I then let the guy talk a bit. After a minute of listening to his BS I told him to please repeat everything he just said. I told him I was in the middle of masturbating and wasn't paying attention but if he'd give me a few minutes I should be done and then we could talk more about this terrible thing that happened to my computer. He hung up.

I tried calling the number back 1-209-565-8556. As noted above it's a Magic Jack number. The recording says the Magic Jack customer you have called is unavailable. Then it prompts you to leave a message but immediately after that it states "The user's mailbox can't accept more massages." The next time I get a call from them I will answer "Police Department, You are on a recorded line. Please state the nature of your emergency."
