I received phone calls from this number 5 times this morning over a two hour period.  I didn't answer the call as I didn't recognize the number...and no message was left on my voice mail.  Highly annoying.

Received, did not answer.  Msg. left from Sterling Testing, a background investigation company that got my name from an H.R. tradeshow that I attended in 2007.  I returned the call and asked to be taken off their call list.  After their attempt at not letting me go w/o a sales pitch, they said they'd take me off their lists.

We have received a call from this number two times for an employed who has never worked at our office.  The lady (foreign accent) then wanted to know my information....last name, job title.  What is this company???  This call goes down on our books as weird call of the year.

This telemarketer is very annoying. I now have fun with all the unwanted calls I receive @ work. I went & found a "disconnected number" sound wav, keep it on my desktop, and play it when they call!! I just write down known, unwanted numbers and play it for them. Now I can't wait for them to call LOL. I'm going to look for more recordings. Hey, the do not call list isn't working for me here at work so I might as well enjoy myself.

someone called, repeatedly, 1st was blocked ID, then with this 212-736-5100 ID showing, but voice mail reviews nothing but silence for over 30 seconds, then a little cough (clearing of his throat) then hung up.

Well, if you have the time and effort to call, make sure you get your message across.

If you have something to hide, that's how you should behave, by keeping silent... but then, why you show your caller ID when it's widely published that you are an annoying spammer?

    Go figure......

Caller had contacted one of my coworkers through LinkedIn who gave him my info. He left a very generic message on my voicemail only referencing my coworker's name and not saying where he was calling from. I Googled the phone number and saw they were looking to sell me something.

Beware...LinkedIn is becoming a new favorite avenue of companies trying to sell your business products.

WELL JUST FOR STARTERS I AM POSTING THIS THROUGH ONE OF THE COMPANIES THAT HAVE ENGAGED STERLING FOR BACKGROUND VERIFICATIONS, ITS AN BACKGROUND SCREENING COMPANY AND IS COMPLETEDLY A LEGIT FIRM. IT DOES NOT SELL ANYTHING UNLESS YOU ARE REFERRED AND MOST CALLS ARE FOR VERIFICATION ONLY AFTER ANY OF YOUR SUBORDINATE OR A CO WORKER HAS GIVEN YOUR NUMBER, THE COMPANY ALSO CERTAIN TIMES DOES NOT LEAVE VOICE MESSAGES AS SOME OF THEIR CLIENTS HAVE POLICIES NOT ALLOWING THEM TO DO SO, THUS SOME PEOPLE GET VM'S AND OTHERS DONT.

ALSO IT IS ONE OF THE LEADING INSTITUTIONS FOR BACKGROUND SCREENING.

I don't believe this.  You probably work for this company and are trying to make it appear legit.  My past employee now works for a big corporation.  InfoSystems keeps calling and wanting info on that person.  The customer relatons department (of this big corpporation) was asked if they use InfoSystems and they said "ABSOLUTELY NOT".  AGAIN, don't give these people any information.

Sterling Info Systems seems to be a legit company -- they are contracted by other companies to check employment history of applicants.  They are featured in Yahoo Finance -- http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/125/125616.html.  I checked it out before I called, unfortunately, a recording says their reps are busy and voice mail message asks for too much info and I'll be damned if I stay on hold for something they need from me.

They left a message on our company voicemail asking us to call back or email them to verify a past employee's employment dates (someone employed by us over 3 years ago).  I didn't call back because the person's Indian accent was so thick I could barely understand the message.  I did email the address on their website asking for a formal request on their letterhead with the employee's signature approving the request.  I finally received the formal request, but they keep calling.  Atleast three times just today....  I'm sure the company would seem more legit and people would be more open to talking with them if they spoke english more clearly.
