Said they were from Windows and that my computer was sending them errors.  Asked me to run eventvwr and I knew better so I asked for a call back number.  They gave me a call back number of 314-329-9695, which is not a working number

9/11 16:57 No ID except New York and no actual message, just dead air on voicemail.  When tried to return call, got "this number is not in service" response.

This guy was very persistent and vague. I confirm the same Microsoft script, as the first commentator mentioned. When I asked for details as to whats my computer code key or serial number he ignored my questions and continued to tell me he was only trying to help.
I asked to be placed on the FCCs Do-Not-Call registry and he had no idea what I was talking about.  This lack of knowledge about basic sales calling legalities led me to believe this is some sort of computer phishing scam. When I asked for his name he gave me a name out of middle America( I think he said Rob or Paul  Wilson), although he had a strong Indian accent. I am ethnically Indian and laughed at him for trying to use such a fake name with me.
I abruptly hung up only after trying to get more information. This guy was very patient and persistent in avoiding my questions. I can see how elderly or non-tech savvy individuals can be easily taken in by this scam. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

I too had a similar experience with this number as the above posters.  The Indian-accented rep instructed me to type www.cts247.com in the run dialog at which point I told him I know a thing or two about computers and would not do so and hung up.

The guy who called me from this number said his name was "Adam" and like someone else mentioned had a strong Indian accent. He said that he was calling from windows about my computer. I told him to not call and take me off of his list and he mumbled something that I could not understand. A lady that I work with who is in her mid 60s said she got the same call last night. Definitely a scam!!!

I just got a call from "Adam" too just now.  He said he was from Microsoft and was "calling about the computers."  He told me that I needed to get in front of any computer I owned because it has been sending out messages.  They have called every weekday last week and now again today. All about 3:30pm.

What's incredibly funny is that when i informed the caller that I ran Linux, and not windows, he still tried to pull the scam.

Indian accented man, states he is from Microsoft windows and tells me my computer is throwing off serious errors and it corrupt.  He then asks me to turn on my computer. I said how is my computer sending you error messages if you think my computer is off?  He says what? I said you told me to turn on my computer, how can my computer be sending you error messages if it's off?   What a dumb A%$##$!  How do these people get my number.

The caller claimed to be calling from Microtech Support.  A guy with a fake Indian Accent, used the name Shawn.  Tried to tell me my computer had a problem with illegal files.  Wanted my IP address, a major scam

As soon as this guy said he was from Windows, I knew he was full of it. I said, “Yeah, I totally believe you’re from Microsoft, with such a strong Indian accent.” He’s very persistent, and overall I’d say this was a very entertaining exchange.

It's a spoofed number from a guy in New York named John Lombardo. Poor guy. It's not him, it's an overseas outfit trying to get my information. I don't own a pc so that's clue number one. Number two, this number is on the 800notes and other call identifying websites for fraudsters, spammers and crooks.

I don't engage, except for self-satisfaction I guess one can but to really solve my ongoing problem I signed up for youmail.com account. Hooking up a fax line to my phone is my wife's solution.

Thanks to the previous posters who clued me in to this youmails free caller blocking option. Verizon wanted a couple of bucks for each caller. No way. They could offer this service for free but being that they are just out to suck me dry as they already gouge me for other services that don't work all the time. Don't get me started. So far working remotely from home has been more of what it was supposed to be and not marred by these idiots calling and wasting my time.

I got a call from a number unknown just this morning. We spent two hours on my very slow computer getting to www.cts247.com amd www.ammyy.com. The Indian sounding voice claimed he called from Microsoft and was going to help to clean up my computer. I was dubious, but since my computer is running so slow and I am about ready to dump it, I agreed. He led me to the file of Error and Warning to show me that my Microsoft Windows Security Liscence had expired. and my computer was collecting virus and other malware. He then made his pitch! He claimed that Windows had a 6 year liscence with my 2007 XP system and I had to renew it to keep it running. He was about to tell me about the 1 year liscense renewal with the new Windows and if I purchased a  security liscence, I could continue to use my old computer as if it were new. I told him that I was not interested in spending one cent. He approached the subject two more times. I told him I was not buying anything and if he did not release controll of my computer ( which I had turned over to him to get it cleaned up) then I was shutting down. He then THREATENED that if I did not buy the windows security liscence then he would report my computer CLSID which he had confirmed earlier to Windows. I would then not be able to get another liscence with them. At that I was sure this was a scam and he was resorting to a threat to get me to buy, I told him to release my computer and let me turn off. I was not buying anything and I would report him to Windows, since they would not want their name associated with such tactics. I told him that I did not need Windows and I could get another DOS next time I got a computer or use the library. He also wanted to know my age and if I had other computers. He hung up in the middle of my outrage and I do not know know if he has intruded upon my privacy for good with my permission to let him control the computer. I can not see any indication of them being permitted to use Ammyy but I am activated. Yes it is not safe to let people into your confidence who want to help you clean up your computer for free. Nothing is free, when it takes a couple of hours to get to the point. These people are desperate to sell and may be on commission. Now you know my story as of 10/4/2013 from 2:30 PM to 5PM.

I have now read the other posts for this thread. I believe he thought I was a senior  and was patient. When he did not get a deal, he said something that I could not get just before he hung up on me. There was another person who came on line after he got control of my computer with www.ammyy.com. I expect that was confirmation that the salesman had sone his work. I hope there is no way for them to charge me for anything, since these computer hackers do know all the details that they want. I did not give him any charge information and told him I would not spend one cent. He wanted to know how much I would spend. This was for sure a telemarketing scam for virus software liscencing. I would like more information about this so called one year security liscence from Microsoft. I am sure it was all a scam!. What people will do do get you to repurchase even when something has lasted 7 years.

10/05 14:18  At least second time this number has called and I have not answered.  Don't trust anything that just reads a state name as ID and when voicemail is silent, then a strange beep noise and mechanical voice saying "good-bye", I know I don't have any interest in talking to them.  I am just getting very weary of having to screen everything, but refuse to allow them to scam me.  Seriously doubt Windows or Microsoft cold call anyone.
