It is a scam. The person pretends to be calling from Microsoft because Microsoft is receiving reports from your computer indicating that something is wrong with it. He is there to help you fix it. He will hang up if you ask for a phone number where you could return his call.

    SCAMMERS!

Just got the call, claimed they were Microsoft Tech Eng and they had received information that my PC was infected.  Someone was getting into my PC and sending out emails, and numerous other nastiness!

Acted dumb and concerned so he walked me through some steps.

Using the Windows logo key beside the Ctrl key and type R (opens up the run dialogue box) ...
Asked me to type in www.ammyy.com, of course said ok, but actually just did a inquiry search for that web site ... a Remote Desktop Software and Remote Desktop Connection App.

He proceeded in telling me to download and run the app ... instead I opened the step by step manual so I could continue answering his questions ...

Aware this was a con, I asked for his ID ... He responded with a strong Indian accent ... John Clinton in New York, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer ID# M0066589 - more bogus info.

Went along and stalled him, used the window shots in the step by step manual to answer more of his questions ... finally he gave me what I was hoping for ... his Client/IP to make the connection 22236556.

Told him the line was cutting out, couldn't hear him ... let him talk more without answering him with only can't hear you sorry and I hung up on him.

He tried to call me back immediately but I just let it ring.

I checked the contact info at www.ammyy.com to complain knowing that I had the Client number but unfortunately the company's address is Varshavskoe 32, Moscow, 115054, Russia.

    More SCAM alert!

I get a  call just about once a week from these people.  I am fortunate, our son works for SAP and I know my computer is in top condition.  I just hang up but they keep calling me!

    Don't fall for it, it's a scam!

This call - which I did not answer since I checked the number on Google - follows an e-mail which also claims to be from Microsoft, asking me to log in to the mail site.  IGNORE!!!

I always google unknown numbers before I answer them.  I have an answering machine, so if the call is legit they should leave a message.  This gives me time to see if they are scammers.  I then save their number as a scammer in my phone.  Only trouble is there are so many of them my phone is almost FULL!!

Just had the same call. Heavy Indian accent. Knew my postal code but not my address. Shirley was my contact person. Phone Number 415-413-3095. Said she was calling from New York??

Kept telling me to switch on my computer. I was then transferred to a "supervisor" who got pretty angry when I did not believe he was from Microsoft and then slammed down the phone.

I got a call saying " i am calling from your computer" i knew it was a trick, so I decided to mess with him. I said i didnt know computers could call people and knew how to talk. I asked why he was assuming I had a computer, and if he felt i needed to turn on on so bad, then he needed to send me on. Clearly he was going from a script because no matter what i said he would say "umm yes ma'am." I even asked him if he was sending me a computer since he assumed I already had one ,and he said yes. lol. After about 10 minutes he got frustrated and hung up on me.

I got this call last week on my cell while I was at work. Told them I wasn't at my computer and they said they would call be back. At about 2 am I got the call, I was asleep and didn't answer.
They finally reached me 2 weeks later. I said I worked for the government (which I do) and I have heard nothing about what he was saying and asked him could I call him back.. SILENCE! He Hung up!

They had stop calling but they just started again.  Of course it is a scam.  I told the man (with a woman voice) that I was 87 years old and that my computer was broken.  I was so dumb that he did not know what so say and he hung up.  Maybe that's the trick to have my phone number erased from their list.  If you have time and would like to have fun, try it.
