- Brett| 2 repliesI got a call from a Pakistan broken English "Microsoft Tech" that said my computer is sending negative data to an unknown source and that it needs assistance otherwise your computer will be destroyed. I became concerned and asked a bunch of questions just to confirm if this was real. He then literally was able to log on my pc by me applying simple commands while on the phone it was like windows key + r it would bring up the "Run" window and i typed what they told me and he started to monitor by PC right before my eyes! I then got into an argument with this agent on the phone cursing this guy out while he had the nerve to actually threaten me back on the phone and said my pc is "[***]" now. I was then transferred to a "Manager" he spoke with me and tried to throw another sales pitch about my license with my windows is out of date and repeating please don't turn your pc off or there is nothing we can do.. So I;m literally about to hit up 7 Eleven for this "green card" (money that can't be traced) transaction [***]. i spoke with my friend that's a tech himself in regards to this he said they cannot destroy your computer unless they are remotely connected to it from the internet. so i pulled the plug and now i am forced to change all my information because of this [***]. a lesson to be learned! just wanted to inform you all so you don't go through this [***] as well!

- choosecouscousVerbatim, the voicemail I have received from this number:
"Call is officially final notice from IRS internal revenue service. The reason of this call is to inform you that Internal Revenue Service is filing a lawsuit against you to get more information about this case file. Please call us immediately on our department number at 213-550-0453 if you would like to speak with an IRS officer, please press 1."
Anytime IRS is "threatening to sue," you can definitely count on it as being spam.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes. Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks or Itunes cards or similar for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Everyone please note:
Effective in April of 2017, the IRS will start using private debt collectors who may, in fact contact you. Note the IRS will notify you by mail that your account is being turned over to a private group. The private collector will then send you another letter. They may call you after that point.
