"867-5309/Jenny" is a 1981 song written by Alex Call and Jim Keller and performed by Tommy Tutone that was released on the album Tommy Tutone 2, on the Columbia Records label. It peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #16 on the Billboard Top Tracks chart in May 1982 (see 1982 in music).[2]

The song caused a fad of people dialing 867-5309 and asking for "Jenny"

Lol, Jenny!  I would've never picked up on that.  Good one.

The cid showed "unknown name" (should've shown Jenny) and phone number 213-867-5309.

Do Not Call Registry Is Useless

Heh, the number looked strangely familiar.  Only after searching did it click that it was from a song.  Probably the only time I got a Heh from a scum telemarketer, lol

Like many uninformed people you think that the National Do Not Call Registry is supposed to eliminate all unwanted calls, not even close. The DNC registry is only designed to keep legitimate companies from calling you-and that's if you sign up for it-AND report any legitimate violators on the DNC site. Personally I've "busted" two companies this way; they stopped calling after being fined via DNC. Usually it's criminals (Robo callers/ SPAM bots) pestering multitudes of folks in short order. Rarely will there be a person on the line-unless you are dumb enough to answer an unknown phone number. I have my answering machine on as few rings as possible (3) so the message plays; most of the time they will give up in short order. Try a call blocking device to cut down on the unwanted calls.

At least one call from this number on my unlisted landline every single day.  I don't answer, they don't leave a message and I'll continue to yearn for someone to shut these people down.

As well as this number being from a Tommy Tutone song (Jenny), reports also indicate it's being used by credit card scammers. Jenny, how could you?

Didn't have my glasses on so grabbed the phone when it rang. ID says (of course) unknown caller. Male asked to speak to the "homeowner" so construction telemarketer.  Told him I was on the DNC & to please stop bothering me, hung up. Heard him say "sorry about that" before the call disconnected.

at least your experience was a lot more pleasant than mine. I answered knowing it was a solicitor and wanted to ask them to remove me from their list since I am on the do not call list. The guy said so what? And I repeated so what? yes and then he started using some colorful language starting with  F .... I told him, well since you are such a professional, of course I would love to do business with this company and hang up.
