I first received a blocked call from a woman named Andrea Dawson identifying herself as a process server trying to serve my ex husband. I tried to explain we were not on good terms and asked her  how she got my number. She said he listed me as a reference. She said she needed to serve him papers for a civil case and asked if I would take down a phone number and the case number and try to give it to him. I offerred to give her his numbers and work info but she said she already had it. She said the # was for the party who was suing him but refused to give me a name. I decided to find out more before putting myself in the crosshairs of my sociopathic ex and called the number myself. 832 981 6869. It was a cell phone a man answered and I said i was told by a woman named Dawson to call and give a case number. He said I made no sence. But said he had receive a similar call earlier and that woman made no sense either. I assurred him this was my first call and I rephrased it including more information. Keep in mind I have not heard nor  have I given them my name. I said I spoke with Andrea Dawson, he said he did know Andrea and I still wasnt making sence. He said he was the owner of the process serving company and he didn't know about "office stuff" He was not in the office and calls were coming to his private cell. Then he told me to take down another # He gave me 214 220 0226 and asked me to give him a minute to call them first and to talk to Claudia.  I called and got a simple vm saying only  "leave a message" I did not.

This is a extortion tactic used by fake process servers.  If she already had his numbers, why would she need to call you?  So you could call your ex and warn him a process server was coming?

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They often call people that have never even been associated with you because they get erroneous information off of the internet.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

If you were searching for the 832 number, you would have found  https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-832-981-6869

How you ended up here is a mystery to me.  However, your post is in the wrong thread and may be removed by the mods because of that.
