- Irene| 2 repliesReceived a call from this unknown number. No voicemail message left.
- Bob replies to IreneThis is a telemarketer
- TJ| 4 repliesNot sure who this is. They called my husbands cell phone which he only had the number for less than 30 days. He never puts his information on the internet so I know that they didn't get it from him. when the number is answered There is dead silence for about 3 minutes and then they hang up. This is becoming extremely annoying. And I want to know how in the world did they get his number so quick?
- Caller: No Idea
- Call type: Telemarketer
- GG| 2 repliesDid not answer and no message was left - Called about 7:20 PM Eastern time from Lehigh Acres, FL
- Jack| 2 repliesI said hello and after 5 seconds got a recording that said HI this is Ray how are you, I hung up
- Caller: Ray
- Nina replies to Jack| 1 replyI got that exact call. Except I replied that I was good and asked how he was in an uncertain tone of voice because the voice sounds familiar but also not like a real person. He then asked to speak with my Mom or DAD and I dumbly answer that they are out of town which I now realize was too much information to give to a stranger so now I'm pretty scared that I still have a few more days of being home alone. Do you think I should be worried?
- Bob-B replies to TJ| 2 repliesYou need to get educated. Robo-calling is how it's done. They call a phone number, let's say it ends in 1031, then it dials the next number that ends in 1032 and so on. It's all done by computer. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER pick up the phone if you are not familiar with the number. Once you answer, you've just confirmed that you have a viable number. The scammers will then share your number with others like them. Both ABC and NBC news recently did a very informative story on this increasing problem. Also, NEVER try calling them back. Many times they'll use a fake number using the same area code to make you think it's someone local calling, even thought the call is probably coming from outside the USA. BLOCK them from calling again..
- BigA replies to Bob-BWhile most of that is true, I think that this is the better explanation in this case:
New Number
All phone numbers are recycled. No one gets rid of a number without a good reason since it a pain in the butt to notify everyone. So now you know why the former owners got rid of that number. - BG replies to GG| 1 replyI just got a call from this number at 7:20pm. Caller ID said POL OFFICERS.
- AlmaI get calls like this about 5-10 x daily I don't answer it, then I will block it. I even got one from "HR block" really. If its someone I know they will leave a message and I will call them back.
- BrendaCalls all the time , answered once ( cause I have friends in that area code ) dumb , dumb , dumb!!!! Do not answer !! Now I don't answer any calls unless they are on my contacts .
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Rose replies to TJNo idea who this is, they just called me twice in a row. But they probably got his number when it was given out in the past. Someone else would have had his number in the past and it could have been compromised then
- JP replies to BGYeah me too, I didn't answer it because it seemed fishy but I was afraid the police were coming for me for a moment there.
- Randy bender replies to Bob-BDon't ever ever site ABC or NBC as a credible source. Fake made up news
- GThey keep calling even though I never pick up. Thank goodness for Caller ID, if I don't recognize the number I don't pick up and even if I recognize the area code, I let the answering machine pick up and if I don't recognize the voice and someone keeps saying Hello, forget it. I got a call a few minutes ago, didn't pick up.
- Caller: ID showed just numbers
- LclAnswered the call, asking, I received this call asked if it was a recording. Someone came on and said, This is Ray, and no, Dear, we are real people here..... Then hung up.
- Craig replies to NinaDon't be worried. Be certain you'll get murdered.
- Scammed once but not again a 2nd timeReceived several calls from these numbers, 239-580-6014, 239-785-1905 & 239-230-1403. When I answered call, no response on other end. Appears to be scam calls representing themselves as Florida Sheriff's Association. When I called back the number, there was a recording that was solicaiting money, just enter credit your credit card #. Seemed Very phishy. Called back the 239-230-1403 # got a machine recording that said HI this is Ray how are you, I hung up, it was another scam call
- Caller: Ray
- Bob&WesCaller ID says V82313183100953, comes up with several different phone numbers. This is a robo caller no doubt. Scamming something, selling something, charity something, etc. Just don't answer and put a block in place. Block either with a device or via your carrier (many allow XX amount of calls to be blocked). If enough people do this and eventually only 1 or 2% of the calls are answered, the perpetrators will not be able to make any money and finally close up. Though I am sure there are dozens waiting to continue the game.
- CPRSince we don't know anyone in the 239 area code, we have blocked all calls with that area code. These scammers have called our number several times in the past day, but they will never get through,
