I just got the same message saying the IRS is filing a lawsuit against us and it's their last warning. I have no idea what's going on. I called and talked to some girl who couldn't even speak English. Does anyone know what this is about and where this number is coming from? 253-336-5321

The calls are coming from criminal extortionists spoofing numbers using VOIP in overseas boiler rooms in apathetic and corrupt third world countries and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

An aggressive and sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, has been making the rounds throughout the country. Callers claim to be employees of the IRS, but are not. These con artists can sound convincing when they call. They use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers. They may know a lot about their targets, and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.Or, victims may be told they have a refund due to try to trick them into sharing private information. If the phone isn't answered, the scammers often leave an “urgent” callback request.
Note that the IRS will never: 1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill; 2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe; 3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card; 4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone; or 5) threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

The IRS has been alerted to a new email phishing scam. The emails appear to be from the IRS and include a link to a bogus web site intended to mirror the official IRS web site. These emails contain the direction “you are to update your IRS e-file immediately.” The emails mention USA.gov and IRSgov (without a dot between "IRS" and "gov"), though notably, not IRS.gov (with a dot). Don’t get scammed. These emails are not from the IRS.Taxpayers who get these messages should not respond to the email or click on the links. Instead, they should forward the scam emails to the IRS at phishing@irs.gov. For more information, visit the IRS's Report Phishing web page. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

My husband got a call from 267-447-5022, stating they were the IRS. This is a land line in Flourville, PA. The person stated we were being sued by the IRS for back taxes and we needed to call 253-336-5321 immediately.  We knew this was a scam because we do not owe back taxes and we knew the IRS does not call unless they have sent several letters.  My mother was a CPA.  I am getting the police whistle out.  The next time they call, they will wish they did not.

I got this same "IRS" call this morning. When I called back I spoke to "Jessica Martin" with a VERY strong Indian accent. Really? :-) I immediately told her I wanted to speak with her supervisor. She tried to push on through the ploy of them finding problems with my tax returns from 2008-2013 blah, blah...I kept repeating "I can't understand your accent and I want to talk with your supervisor!"
Once she figured out she was not getting anywhere with me, she hung up and blocked the number I called from (which was different from the phone where the message was left.) I assumed within 10 sec of the call that it was a SCAM!!
    Be aware!!

I just got the same call this morning.  It sounded like a scam from the start.  They obviously didn't even know who they were calling, or they would have said my name to confirm.  Someone should call and scam them back!

Well I just received my first one, I know I don't owe the IRS.  anyways, I too was told that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me and to call this 253-336-5321 number, well I checked my caller I.D. on my phone and it said no name found and gave a number of 1-264-417-5622 well area code 264 is Anguilla, which  is a British overseas territory in the Caribbean. anyways it's deleted as all the other ones are. I just hate paying a phone bill every month to have to deal with this. I think the att could do a better job at protecting it's paying customers.

On my home phone yesterday I got a wireless recorded call from 518-858-3353 saying IRS is filing a suit against me and to call 253-336-5321,  Because I have gotten these calls before I hung up.  They are always from a person with a thick foreign accent who hopes to catch a naive person that falls for the scam.  The IRS NEVER calls you with a threat to scare you into giving them money.  You would get a written notice if they have a tax problem or issue with you.

I got a phone call from St Thomas Virgin Island the # being (340)884-5669 leaving a message that they hve been trying 2 contact us & this is the last attempt & the IRS was suing us & then thy left a different # for us 2 call which is (253)336-5321. I tried calling both #'s back because for starters the IRS does not call u if thy are suing. Thy can get your money wthout making a phone call threatening you.

I don't answer unknown numbers but this one left a message.  Called in from "Out of Area" with Houston, TX number 346-824-5969 then the mechanical voice, in bad grammar, stated they were the IRS and this was their last attempt to contact me about taxes owed.  The automated voice stated the IRS was going to file suit unless I called them back at 253-336-5321  immediately.  Know this was a scam as I pay my taxes diligently, besides knowing the IRS does not call but sends letters.

    Never falling for this idiocy
Utterly illegal call!  Message pretended to be from the IRS and about a lawsuit about to be filed - no way in hell does any lawsuit get communicated this way and no way in hell does the IRS do this.  Idiots and scammers, I'll be reporting this to the FTC and the IRS and I hope they never see sunlight again.

I just received a phone call from 253-336-5321 claiming that I have to call this number 262-417-5822, claiming that they are the IRS.  I know this is a scam.  This is the second time I received this call and when I called back, it says, the call can't be completed.  It seems like it is an overseas caller.  BEWARE!

Received a call on my cell phone.  Was an automated call claiming to be from the IRS and this was my last chance to pay as they were suing me.  Told me to call 253-336-5321 but caller ID was 260-447-5722.  I had to laugh, you can tell it's a scam.
