- KathyDidn't recognize number so I blocked it.
- rural residentFirstcall from this number today. No message left - probably some scammer.
- hissyso annoying no meesage left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- OregonianCalled but left no message. I didn't recognize the number and don't do business with anyone in that location so didn't answer. Questionable source since they didn't leave a message.
- SnowyCalls but does not leave message. Called them back only to get a recorded message about their promotional sales.
Blocked another one. I block about 4 every day, this is just another P.O.S.- Caller: Does not specify
- Call type: Telemarketer
- CindyHang up with no message
- JWHThis may be part of the same group that was hitting my business phone every day 4-6 weeks ago with a different phone number from different states. All of the phone numbers were hosted by Onvoy Landline which is owned by Zayo. They never leave a message and never call on consecutive days using the same number. Everything is rotated. Just ignore and do not answer. Always the best policy.
- Kat| 1 replyThis is one of several numbers "alli" loans uses... I keep "pressing 2" to be put on a no call list, next day I get a call from same company - different number. Today I pressed 1 and asked to be put on the no call list. "Danielle" said "I don't give a [***]". Great. I'm never getting off this list, they have been calling for 9 months

A lot of posters here complain they get many calls from scammers.
A few posters state they get hardly any.
Why the difference? Here are possible reasons:
The most common mistakes made by people who receive calls from unknown numbers:
Answering the phone. ◄- ◄- ◄- ◄- ◄-
Instead of answering, let the call go to voicemail or answering machine. Legitimate callers will usually leave a message.
Pressing a number "to be taken off the list" ◄- ◄- ◄- ◄- ◄-
That works for legitimate telemarketers, but legitimate telemarketers would not have called you in the first place, if you were on the DNC list. Pressing a number on a call from a telespammer merely confirms you answered the phone.
Returning the call.
At best, returning a scammer's call merely confirms your phone is "live", and your number will be added to a list that will be used by even more scammers. At worst, the call will cost you additional fees, if it is from a foreign country, such as Jamaica (876 area code). Also, scammers are now spoofing Caller IDs, so the number you see may not really be the number that called you. It might belong to an innocent, third party.
Arguing with the caller:
Call center employees have probably heard your argument many times. They may either continue to try to scam you, or they will hang up ... but will also make sure some other scammer calls your number, later.
Blowing a horn or whistle into the phone:
Will irritate the scammer. The scammer may then add your number as a "spoofed Caller ID", so others think YOU are calling them, and YOU may hear retaliatory horns or whistles if the irritated called person calls YOU back!
Forwarding the call to a government office.
Not too swift. All that does is tie up a line at the govt office, and record YOUR number as the forwarding number! Realize that your congress person knows phone scams are a problem, and also knows the FCC and FTC have been assigned the task of upholding the laws concerning this problem. Instead, you should report the problem via normal channels to the FTC or FCC.
Giving or forwarding the supposed scammer's phone number to other scammers.
May not be a good idea. The 1st scammer might have used a spoofed phone number, and, if you give it to other scammers, all you are doing is causing more calls to and problems for an innocent person.

Eventually, after getting many scam calls, some people think their only recourse is getting a new number. That is not true. The "new number" is probably somebody else's "old number", and will come accompanied with its own baggage (and calls).

What you SHOULD do:
If you are disturbed by frequent calls from scammers / spammers. obtain a call blocker app, device, phone, or service. Google is your friend. Remember, the Do Not Call list is effective to prevent calls from registered telemarketers, but scammers / spammers ignore that policy. - North Carolina| 1 reply@Slim
You list was very comprehensive. Part of me thinks we should have a class action suit against the FCC or FTC for not doing their job. If they truly can't stop them, why don't they call 24/7 without impunity? If they are coming from other countries, put a trade embargo or cut their lines into this country for a day and see if THEIR country will start to do something. Though I agree that not answering and blocking the calls is probably wisest, I do get a warm feeling when I wait to get someone on the line, talk softly for a few minutes, then blow a whistle in their ear. They may retaliate, but these @ssholes shouldn't be allowed to get off scott-free. - Slim replies to North CarolinaThe DNC itself has no enforcement authority - they forward complaints to the appropriate agency.

Remember, the FCC's Do Not Call site is a good one to report unwanted calls from LEGITIMATE telemarketers. To report spammers and scammers, visit the FTC site, at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
Read the above sentence again.
The DNC list is ignored by spammers and scammers, and those criminals usually use VOIP or burner phones, and cannot be easily traced. Kristi Thompson of the FCC explained that it can take her anywhere from five to ten subpoenas to trace a single robocall back to its origin

If the reporting site you wanted is not in the above list, try this one:

If you receive calls even after reporting them (and waiting a sufficient time), then you should consider using a call blocker app, device or service as your first line of defense. Google "call blocker" to see such things at Amazon or other sites. After all, you have locks on your home and care doors, right? Why not a lock on your phone?
√ - VinnyI have a voice menu system set up. This was one of many that didn't get thru. They get the opening greeting and the computer that's actually doing the calling drops the call. I never even get it.
