no message left, lots of background noise

Some black woman calling, with lots of other telemarketers talking in the background.  She did not identify herself.

Called and did not leave a message.

called, mumbled something - lots of background noise.  Called # back - automated answering said "thank you for calling donor services division"

Called my business line @ 9:40AM.  Soliciting for charity.  She did identify herself, but I had to ask who they were (I didn't write it down) and why they were calling, else you get the full charity spiel.  Muscular Dystrophy?

called many times before I finally answered it. said they wanted to lower my mortgage but when I told them to remove me from their call list, they called back an hour later. I added them to my call screening list available from comcast voip.

SOMD IS SPECIAL OLYMPICS OF MARYLAND

Got a call today from (301) 882-9942 which is in Frederick, Maryland.  A young male voice (with lots of background noise of other people) just said something like: "Its OK - its cool."  When I asked him to repeat it, he just said the same thing again...and again.  I really don't know if he was even talking to me or to somebody wherever he was calling from.  Then I told him he must have a wrong number and the line went dead.

This group has been calling our home after midnight.  When we call back we get a recording from a place called "donor services'...after listening to their long message and then listening to an even longer message of donor groups we narrowed it down thanks to the list above to the Special Olympics Maryland....so for all those Marylanders out there...just call back 301-882-9942, dial 1 to remove, say Special Olympics Maryland, enter your phone number and confirm....hopefully in 2 days, no more calls in the wee hourse!

Thanks for the info. JD, I have been getting many calls from this number. I have now removed my telephone number from their list.

Received this call on my voice mail at 9:13AM today.  The caller didn't say a word but stayed on the line for minutes with only a lot of background noise from other telemarketers. Tried to dial this number (301-882-9942) but got a message half way through dialing it saying "we're sorry, your call cannot be completed. please check the number and dial again" which I did 3 times with the same result.  I think this is Special Olympics of Maryland (SOMD).

Calls come in pretty much daily.

This is not Special Olympics of Maryland. They are a professional fundraising service that organizations will "contract" to solicit donations. They'll also call as the Fraternal Order of Police, the Police Widow's Fund, etc. They charge the organizations as much as 30% of the donation amount. If you want to make a donation, hang up on them and call the organization directly. To remove yourself from the call list, say "All organizations" when they ask which list you want to be removed from.

Caller from #301-882-9942 calls and doesn't leave a message.

I receive frequent calls from 301-882-9942 with Caller ID "SOMD" and no one on the line.  When I try to call 301-882-9942 to ask them to stop calling, I either get a busy or dead air.  Tried Call Block using my Verizon service, but this only works on Verizon local numbers.  Consequently, I am going to pay $5/month and sign up for Call Intercept so that I can selectively block up to 20 numbers.

It's unfortunate that we have to take action and pay to stop these annoying telemarketers, but that's what I am going to do.
