Called and left message that they were filing suit...truly confusing message and left this number (which also showed on the caller id), but when called they said I had the wrong number and there was no indication that this was the IRS

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Got a voicemail message on my landline about 11:10 AM EDT today, and the message only said to "call on our office line"  and specified this number. They didn't say who they were.  I never answer unknown phone numbers so keep trying you genius scammers.

Supposed  IRS  bot caller threatening a suit. Number is in New York.  Scam they contact by mail first.

I had a call today, of course, not recognizeing cicero ny or the number I left it unanswered, they left a recorded msg telling me I am being audited by the IRS..I, of course, no better! However, point is,,what if an older person received this msg? It would possibly scare them and they may or could return this call? They could give out important information..Public nees to be made aware of these scams..

I got a call on my home phone.  Not too many of us still have land lines.  The messages was, the IRS was filing suit against me.  I needed to call this number.  Was not a person, was a recorded robot.  They did at least say "Thank you" at the end of the call.  Got a similar call about a year ago from a person who left a different number.  I reported that to the FCC.  Will report this new number to the FCC.  The FCC actually took the information and I got a letter from them.  Don't know how much follow-up the FCC does, but they did take time to write me.  The IRS wouldn't leave a number because you could never get through if you try to call them back.

Suspect it to be a scam of sorts after go ogling number!
