Dear Fellow Posters:
     WHY, Why, Why do some of you bother to answer a number that you don't know (because a lot of you will or have)?  Why, when you do answer, get mad because it is a scam call?  Why do you call back?  You get pissed off at receiving these calls, but, you answer or call back to give them a clue that you do have a working number that they can have fun spoofing with you!
    Then you get mad at the FCC, the DNC, the phone companies, the government and President Obama for these calls and accuse them of being 'ineffective' or 'a joke' for not doing anything about them.  
    Understand that the DNC is working or you would be getting calls from any and every LEGITIMATE bank, credit card, charity, medical, loan, department store, and fundraiser you could think of--but, you don't because they are following the guidelines of the DNC.  
    Just imagine, if most of the spam/unknown calls we all receive would be ignored (resisting the temptation to answer to 'get revenge', so to speak)--it could work wonders, don't you think?  Of course, that means that sites like this wouldn't be needed.  
    Is that such a bad thing?
    So, come on, people!  Stop answering unfamiliar numbers, don't call back (it's usually a waste of time, most of the time, is it not?), and get on with the parts of your life that you can do something about.
    Don't allow spam/crank calls/and the like steal precious time from you--otherwise you are giving them permission to do so.
    DO. NOT. ANSWER.

P.S. I know that this will be ignored by most because there will be more posts complaining about these calls.
     (Sigh)  I tried. :-/

This number called my house today at 4:11pm EST showing up as also "New York".  I was not at home. Thanks to all of your input, sounds like this person was trying to do the same thing to me.  This is TERRIBLE.  I know of a friend, not PC literate that fell for this & it took a lot to finally get his laptop fixed & get rid of this hack/virus.

I love to get these calls.  I'm usually running DOS5.0 -  and they can always support this OS.   of course they start trying to get off the phone when I tell them to give me a minute while I connect to interweb using my 9600 baud modem.    On the call today
I told the guy I was running  Ubun-three, and I'll be!  you know they can support that OS as well.   The guy today was a little sharper than the others,  I have a really bad texas accent and when I told him my name was Venkat Tumipalli  he told me to quit wasting his time and hung up.

Caller ID says "NEW YORK", I did not answer.  I will block this number.

received a call from this number stating that my computer was being inspected and someone was trying to get into my computer I know computers so I played along with it and then told the man off and told him he was a cyber attack her I am calling the FBI right now!!!

Computer scam. Says they are calling from "Windows operating system" (but when I press them on it, they admit they are not calling from Microsoft.)

got a call from this number, caller ID shows "New York."  Told me he is with Microsoft and they noticed I am having trouble with my computer!  I called him an ape hole and hung up on him.  If I didn't have friends in NY I wouldn't have answered to begin with.

Why did you spend so much time writing about something you can do nothing about?  However, why can't the phone company be forced to shut down these [***]?  At the least they are a minor annoyance.  At the worst, they are committing fraud and stealing identities!

Phone companies are "common carriers".

That means they must allow everybody to use their services, unless the company is notified by law enforcement that the user is committing crimes.

So, the phone company cannot universally block a number merely because YOU complain ... however, they might give you the ability to block those calls to YOUR phone.  Even better, you can protect yourself, by using a call blocking phone, app or other device.

Do not depend on others to enforce rules or policies YOU invent!  Protect yourself!

I have received many calls from this number. I don't answer the call. No message is left. The web indicates that this is number is from a scam on Microsoft.

Rang a couple of times and left no message.  Blocked

Picked up, and no sounds but the usual robo-call clicks. Hung up. The caller ID said, "315-456-7890  LOC MARTIN MS 2". The criminals are having fun getting creative, I guess.

We have to answer the phone because this is our home and business phone and we get clients calling from all over the country.

I just got this call from a mad with an accent...said he was calling from Microsoft and that we had been hit with a virus.

I told him I was reporting this call...then hung up!

My mother-in-law I received the phone call claiming that our computer had been hacked. After talking with "Jack Wilson" he explained that we needed to get on the Internet and he could help us connect to the hackers to eliminate their access. Without laughing in his face, I basically said please provide me a number I can call you back. He provided the number 3156127317.

Yes, I thought it was Lockheed Martin too. But the man had an east Indian accent and asked about my computer. I said my computer was just fine and hung up despite his protestations.
