IRS PHONE SCAM: Used ROBO caller to leave message on phone.  Referenced case# CF79621 ordered to call phone# 315-675-7635

Contacted number - person identified self as “Officer Austin Black” Department of Legal Affairs - US Treasury Department

Claimed I owed back taxes from 2014-2015 amount $6,490.00

Threatened nothing I could do.  No way to pay.  Asked if I used Turbo Tax (I claimed I did), said I made intentional error on taxes.  Was notified twice via Turbo Tax of this error.  Because no response was received, a warrant for my arrest had been issued and local police would be arresting me in 45 minutes.  After ratcheting up the stress for a few minutes, Officer Black transferred me to a “supervisor”.

Supervisor identified himself as Federal Officer Adam Jones.  Claimed I would be arrested.  Might be able to work something out.  Needed to make payment using a “Tax Payment Card” from an authorized store.  Asked if I had the money in cash to pay back taxes.  Instructed me to remain on the line at all times.  Tell no one what I was doing.  To stay on the phone to the bank, he would then tell me what store to go to.  I needed to purchase the “Tax Payment Card” and verify information on the card over the phone.  I would then be given an address to mail the cards to in Washington D.C via certified mail.  Told me to tell him when I was seated in my car.  Told me to ensure my cell phone had enough battery and would not die.  Claimed if the call dropped, I would be unable to reach him and the process to fix the problem would be stopped.  I would then be arrested on my warrant.

Phone call received from 315-675-7635 on 7/26/2017. I did not answer the call. It has been reported to https://www.donotcall.gov/ Voicemail was left with female computer robotic voice: "...VF79621. Ignoring this message will be an additional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate, judge, or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is 315-675-7635, I repeat it 315-675-7635. Do not disregard this message, and do return the call. Now if you do not return the call, and I don't hear from your attorney either, than the only thing I can do is, wish you a good luck, as this situation unfolds on you. Goodbye."
