In the task phase, the victim is asked to perform simple, low-effort tasks and is initially paid small amounts to build trust. Eventually, the victim is asked to pay a "deposit," "training fee," or "security bond" to access higher-paying work, or they are sent a fake check to deposit, with instructions to immediately wire a portion back, making the victim responsible when the original check inevitably bounces. The goal is always to steal the victim's money or identity.
