Call blocker might be of some help.  Also don't pick up on numbers you do not recognize, or where there are caller IDs that seem odd.  Or where there is no caller ID.  There’s  no way to stop the calls from being initiated.  Calls originate in India and Pakistan. They spoof local numbers

'Got a call from "Microsoft Technical Support" (with strong Indian or Pakistani accent) telling me "Your computer is sending error messages."  (Oh yeah?  So 'kind' of 'Microsoft Technical Support' to inform me that they will 'help' to clean up my LINUX computer.  But, then, there's a fool born every day and maybe TWO a day in Hyderabad, Calcutta, or New Delhi!).

But I don't let on the my computer is running Linux Mint 16.  :)  Grin!  He's in for some fun, this tech 'guru'!

After telling me to give him control of my computer (not exactly what he said but we know better!), but I pretend to go through the steps whereupon he inquires "What do you see on the screen?"  (Referencing http://www.hindilearner.com/hindi_words_phrases/hindi_bad_words.html for some good phrases in Hindi, proceed.....)

So I tell him that I have "Error 83: Tatti ", which, being 'unfamiliar with computers', I have to spell out to him.  (Look it up on the Hindi Bad Words page:  :)  Grin: Human waste: rhymes with treacle matter).

He doesn't understand the 'error message', so he directs me to type in a URL for some worm-spreading Indian website.  Again, I pretend to follow along, letter-by-letter, through the URL entry that he spells out.  Again, he asks "What do you see on your screen now?"

This time, I tell him that there is a new error message: "Error 57: Saali kutti" (which, being so non-technical, I spell out since "I don't understand error messages.")

Some of those prats are pretty slow to catch on but it usually only takes two or three Hindi obscenities as the "error messages" before they realize that they're idiots, and hang up.  If they're REALLY slow, after the third or fourth  obscene 'error message', you can just tell them "I didn't realize that my Linux computer was sending Microsoft error messages" to help end the call on a bright note.  :)

Love those nongs from Asia.  Keep them busy so that they can't plague the less-knowing folks who might fall for their worms and viruses.

Be sure to thank your telephone provider and government for allowing this to continue. Although the technology is available for your telephone provider to block robocalls, you, the paying customer and taxpayer are not allowed to use that technology. "Blocking" calls in your phone only hides future calls from that specific number...no real blocking occurs.

So tired of these calls!  I also got a call from this number (and so many others!) trying to tell me that my PC has a virus and that they want access to your computer, etc.   I don't answer ANY calls from ANY ONE anymore if I do not know the number & recognize it as a friend or family member....if they wanted to leave a message so I can check them out, & verify the validity of the call.....but they never do!
