- F2SFor ME, this was actually a beneficial call. For some reason Capital One needed to confirm who I was, and blocked my on-line access to my accounts. I WAS LESS THAN HAPPY. Their automated system had me select one of my active phone numbers through which the system called me, gave me a 6 digit temporary code, Once that was entered in place of my regular password, it allowed me into the system for the initial purpose of changing my password, after which I was given full access. All this seems to have started with Capital One's REVAMPING their on-line presence and it was going on for weeks. I am still not happy, because despite Capital One opening THREE CASES and promised resolutions and callbacks, NONE OF THAT HAPPENED, AND THE CASES WERE CLOSED WITHOUT ANY WRITTEN OT VERBAL NOTICE TO ME! My impression of Capital One's "DRT" (Digital Resolution Team): THEY ARE A BUNCH OF TECHNICAL MORONS AND DISCOURTEOUS IDIOTS HIDING BEHIND IMPENETRABLE COMMUNICATION FIREWALLS. "DIRT" would be a better moniker for them. Guess what? I am leaving less than $1k in each of my three accounts (to keep them active as a possible backup), the rest of my money is moving to ANOTHER BANK.

- dcguyThis is the phone number used by Capital One Bank to send you a PIN number to be entered when the computer that you use to access their website is a new one that has not accessed their website in the past (even though you entered the correct sign on information). A recorded voice message is provided that tells you the number to enter on the computer screen prompts. You only have several minutes to enter it on the screen and transmit this PIN number because if you wait too long, it will not work and you will have to request a new PIN. This method of requiring something beyond your password to get access is referred to as two factor authentication.

- Freddy replies to SLCYep, thanks for pointing out that you scammers are trying really hard to make people believe this is a "legitimate" call. If it really was there would be no reason in the world to look it up afterwards. I see you even gave yourselves up votes as well.
- FreddyWarning! The scammers have taken over this thread to make you believe that the calls from this number really are from Capital One. If that were really true there would have been no reason for anyone to look the number up afterwards. Do not, under any circumstances trust a call from this number. Always call the bank directly using the number on your statement, their official website, or the back of your credit card. Capital one will not initiate a call to you to solve a problem unless you call them first and tell them about it.
- Rob of NY| 1 replyIt was from Cap one. Doesn't mean that someone else can not spoof this number. I did look it up
when I recevied a number call early, but forgot about it later. I then looked up the number and rememberd the call

- hhhI never answer calls from numbers I do not recognize. If this is a legitimate call, they will leave a detailed message. They did not; therefore it is not a legitimate call and the number has been blocked, like so many others.
- Jason| 1 replyIt is from Capitol One. They use this number to send you a code to complete your login when the id of the computer you are using has never been used to login before.

- Ayette AlhambraDoes Capital One owns this number? Called me to give a code to access my Capital One account on a computer I haven’t used on any business with them.

- KSeems to be a legitimate phone number from Capital One. I had problems signing & recv'd a call with the temporary password. There is, however, a problem with their system. In the last 5 days, I've had to change my password 3 times. Once I set a new one & then try to access my account, I get the same messages. It's getting to be a pain. The c/s reps haven't done anything to help me. Maybe I'll try the Fraud Dept next. I'm about ready to transfer my savings to another bank.

- LyndaI just received three texts with a code on each of them, and then a call from Capital One with a code and on each occasion I did not request anything. I called the fraud department and they said that no code had been sent to me, and no one had asked for a code for any reason.
