- sarahWe got a phone call similar to everyone else! Got it Sunday afternoon. My dad had answered it, but since english isn't my dad's strongest language he handed the phone to me, which I'm glad he did. The guy goes off that we won a trip for four, and after stating our complete address, he asks for our mastercards number for verification. I asked him under what name is the card under...and he just keeps stating Mr. our last name over and over again. I didn't state what my dad's name was, so he couldn't figure out what it was. I REPEAT DO NOT EVER EVER STATE YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE!
- Caller: They say Mastercard
- Your Friendly NeighbourHi Everyone,
Read most of the comments here. I agree its scary. But don't be. Like someone said, you could do the same if provided with a good phone book, etc.
In any case, I got the call minutes ago for the first time. And guess what! An East Indian Guy! I didn't quite get his name, but that doesn't matter. I could tell since I'm East Indian too living here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In any case, when he told me I won...etc. because of using my Visa/MasterCard well, etc. I asked him and this is what you all should ask too probably, "From where did you get my information?" To which he'll probably reply, "I'm just passing on your free trip information" or something like that and that all he needed was a confirmation from your side.
I then asked his which card did I use. And that really stumped him. He took a good guess and told me that I used MasterCard. Bingo!! I told him I don't have one. And at this point I should have waited for his response and taken it from there. But I didn't. I just hung up.
My advise to all, which you all probably know by now and which we often give out to our kids but rarely apply to ourselves - "Don't talk to Strangers". No, not ever. Especially over the phone. And don't every give out any information, even by way of confirmation. Don't even confirm your mailing address. Why should you anyway. If they have a gift for you, ask them to just send it over to the right address. Period.
And oh, by the way, please do also understand not every East Indian is bad or a cheat. Thanks and God bless. - Thomas replies to grannie21Hi Everyone,

Twice today (November 15/10) at 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM had long pause hang up calls from what sounded like a very busy/crowded room. Seeing the other posts, the criminals are at it again. I had converstion about a month ago along the lines of something wonderful from MasterCard. I dumped that card ten years ago so I asked the east indian or perhaps pakistani guy what bank had hired him for this...... gotta love this answer -- "your bank". I hung up while he was still making the scam pitch.
- nesVisa credit card scam.
Caller has told me because of my excellent standing with Visa, I have won a trip for 2 to Orlando Florida. They have all my info, name, phone no. credit card no., home address..(frightening!!!!) .all they need is the 3 nos. off the back of my card and the trip is mine. This is the 3rd call...same thing. - SparkyI just got a call from this number so I googled it and got here. He was an east Indian guy asked for me by Mrs. (my name that is in the phone book) and that he was from Visa/Mastercard. I asked him how he got my number because I am on the do not call list and Visa is not authorized to share my number with telemarketers. He insisted he was from Visa and that I had won a free trip. I told him there is no such thing as a free trip and what was this going to cost me. He said it wouldn't cost me anything all he needed was some information for verification. I told him I wasn't giving him my credit card number, he said that he needed information to verify that I got a free trip. That's when I told him I wasn't interested and he hung up. I'm glad I got rid of him because I then realized that my Visa card is not under the name that I'm listed under in the phone book as, and that he couldn't have been from Visa.
I hope I got rid of him for good, especially after reading these posts.
I also hope for everybody's sake that, since he didn't have the correct name from my card, he doesn't really have anybody's credit card information.
What a menace! - ACSOreceived a hang-up call from this number - pretty good thing as I am not very patient with people like this (see thread), all I want to know is why is the phone company associated with this number not taking action?
- Caller: not stated
- Enid5:00 pm Nov. 22/10. Winnipeg. Got a call from this number 412-923-4565 (PA area code). I did not answer. These crazy callers know answering machines cut in on 3rd ring so they hang up. Hey, Do Not Call Registry, are you reading these complaints?? Manitoba is getting blitzed by this clown.
- Portage La PrairieThey are hanging up when they hear a younger, annoyed or otherwise unlikely targets voice. They are waiting to hear an elderly person speaking. SCAM ARTIST LOSERS.
- Caller: VISA TRIP SCAM
- Obscene callI got the same thing at 5:18 pm. Man with a thick east indian accent said he was from Visa...then he said he was from mastercard 2 minutes later. I asked for the company name of who he works for. He said the Credit Card Head office, in toronto. Then he started insulting me. I told him to remove my number from all of his scams. He said he would keep calling over and over. I asked for his supervisor,. he refused and said very quietly that he wanted to f*** me. He kept on with that line of disgusting BS until I hung up.
Don't give your info to this PoS, it's definitely a scam. I called the non-emergency police line, and they told me to call telephone fraud - 1/888-495-8501 or go to the website www.recol.ca. They're closed right now, but we can all call them at 8am tomorrow morning!- Call type: Telemarketer
