- MTVoice Mail from robo call purporting to be IRS. Call received from CA at about 8:15. First, I don't think people in CA wake up at 8:00 CST. Second, IRS ALWAYS communicates in WRITING FIRST, and thirdly, I don't believe they have my cell phone number...SCAM ALERT
- Caller: I.R.S.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Lcf replies to P MDitto. Called back. Something picked up. No greeting. No person speaking. Just static.
- fastzorro replies to rffbyI did call back, got some way old lady said she was an "officer". After 1 minute she hung up. I called back several times, each time answering and hanging up. One time she did not hang up but thought she did (like a butt dial), heard lots of phones ringing and "IRS", IRS in the background. Seems to be a very busy place.
- CWG40 replies to Jenn HWell, because your callers are hard core Indian or Pakistani scammer/extortionists and as such ignore all US laws. Like any good criminal will do. You can protect your self with a call blocker.
- CWG40 replies to Christine AndrusTotal scam. Originates in either India or Pakistan.

IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. It has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And usually a lot of appeals. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - kathy replies to NHPI just started getting calls from this number also...but its a recording, guess I am not fortunate enough to get a real person so sick of all these scammers, payday loans i never took out, IRS, lawyers etc...get a job!!!!!
- JasI also received this call from the "IRS" today. Her name was still Julie (Judy?). She gave a last name, but I missed it. As with many of you, it was a recording, telling me she was with the IRS, and that we had to call back urgently or the IRS would take strong action. And that we must not ignore the call. She finished with the 'take care' ending.
I went to the IRS website and ended up at http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml and reported it. I do not like that I had to put my name, address, email, and phone - I mean, that's part of what I'm avoiding. I did anyway (hopefully using Sorry@NotGivingEmail.com won't be a problem). In the yellow bar near the top of the page is a read more link which gives more info on these calls. But that was a year ago, and looking at all the recent reports on here, it might be getting worse.- Caller: fake IRS
- clareifyFrom the standpoint of a scam business, this is the best time of year for those vultures to pretend to be the IRS. Sadly, they are probably taking a ton of money by scaring hard working, good, kind people into thinking they are up "you know what" creek. Its really a messed up thing to do.
Ive received a call from this phone# on my land line 3 times since the start 2015 but i dont have an answering machine or voicemail on my landline & i haven't answered it so i dont know what they say. But after reading everyone's messages here, i know to block it & be done with them. Thanks everyone - Anjali KrishnanScam IRS call
- NicJulie Smith from IRS - multiple, continuous calls today even leaving voicemail.
(415) 234-9863. Clearly an automated call with a computer-generated voice.- Caller: IRS
- DKT| 1 replyI received the same phone message as above. I live in Maryland and received the call at 6:30 in the morning. I never heard of the IRS calling anybody that early in the morning and when I thought about it the time would be about 3:30 in the morning San Fran time. I called the phone number just to be curious and never would get a pick up but within 2 minutes they would call me back with the same recorded message. This went on for 3 phone tag calls. I blocked the call after that but I sure hope nobody falls for this scam.
- Caller: Judy IRS AGENT
- MidNYteStorm replies to DKTThe IRS does not initiate contact by phone.
- c PhillipsThese people are calling saying they are the IRS I called back and then I asked what they wanted with my information they hung up they are fake I see that now
- Caller: Irs they say
- ReddySaid its from IRS. I need to call back otherwise pay some fines
- Polly replies to rffbyI called this number today 1/22/15. I couldn't understand the guy on the other end. Thick accent. Sounded like a busy call center to throw me off. He claimed to be a licensed agent of the IRS. He somehow knew my name even though there are 5 other adults who live with me. He then said someone had filed a grievance against me w the IRS. He wanted the name of my criminal attorney. I told him "what r u talking about??" He repeated the question. Then I demanded the name of this person and he told me Kenneth Kexter or Wexter. I said I had never heard of this person before. Then the so called IRS agent hung up on me. Beware. It's gotta be a scam.
- DJMReceived same robo call as stated many times above. When I called I got someone with an Indian or Pakistani accent. When I told them I was aware of their scam and that it was bull shiite and that most Americans are aware that the IRS will not call them that they were idiots. I called back several times to waste their time on the phone with me so they couldn't call someone else. I left a nasty phone message too so that I can waste more of their time in productivity. I suggest all those who have been contacted do the same to bombard those [***]!
- Caller: Who the [***] knows?
- Michelle replies to NHPNo they do not say take care they send letters
