- Cindy| 2 repliesThis place is a scam they will steal your identity as they have mine. My lawyer contacted them and he could barely understand what the guy was saying. These people have ran my credit down almost 300 points
- Nikki DickinsonIs telling me I am being sued for a loan I never got.
- KT| 3 replies11/4/11 - I received a call from a Mr. Michael Brown, an attorney at American Law Offices stating that I am being sued and taken to court for fraud and failure to pay a loan.
I have NEVER gotten a loan, let alone failed to pay one back.
I asked him for more information and he could not give it to me. I told him I was going to call the FBI and report him and then all of a sudden he decided he would tell me that the court was in my hometown, in Florida. I don't live in Florida! Then he said he will fax the affidavit to me, which I have failed to receive.
I AM going to call my state attorney general and press charges for harrassment or something.
I checked my credit report and my bank and nothing crazy or new has been happening but I am putting everything on alert.- Caller: American Law Office
- Call type: Debt collector
- dee replies to KTi received the same call from michael brown so is this a scam he wouldnt tell me what the charge was about. and i could barely understand what he was saying.
dee - Joanne Solis replies to KT| 1 replyI got the same call from Mr. Michael Brown advising that if I didn't send the money owed the sheriff was coming to my house and I would go to jail for 6 months. He also said that this company had sent me 30 emails which I ignored. He wanted me to send money to Elizabeth Reindoller via Western Union in Reeresrille, S.C. and if I said if this was a company, why would I be sending this to an individual. I am reporting this to the FBI and I have contacted my lawyer to give him a call & scare him. He did send me an attachment from his so called American Law Offices.
- deareiThis is scam, they ask me to send money to them thru Walmart.
- melThis is the second day for them to call me........Michael Brown ( professional Attorney) says if I don't return the call the sheriffs office will come to my house with a lawsuit in hand. I can barely understand what he says but does he think I am stupid.........? A professional attorney is definitely not going to be the one calling. Some one that works for the attorney would be calling. How many times do you get a warning that the sheriff is coming to your house with a lawsuit....? How ridiculous! This is a scam! But kinda scary because he has my ss# and more info about me.
- Caller: ?? Michael Brown Pro. Attny
- Be Aware!!!I received a call from Michael Brown (stated he was an Attorney) and wanted to know if I had an Attorney. He was very difficult to understand; however, he stated he was calling regarding a lawsuit and that he needed to verify information with me....I was very insistent that I do not know him, why he'd call me as opposed to mailing information to my home address.
Be Aware...Do not share any information and do not confirm anything with this man.
By the time he finally understood that I would not provide him with my information, he quickly gave me a name and address so quickly that I decided not to write it down. If this is really something concerning me the information will arrive in the mail so I did not write anything down except his name and telephone number...Again he was very difficult to understand.
Because I refused to provide information he ended the call with F@##$ You...so I know this is a scam.
Beware and do not give your information to this man! - YayaOh my God! This guy has been hounding us and hounding us!!!! When I informed him that we have yet to receive anything sent to us through registered mail he backed off. We also changed our bank account because he had that information, too. If you get a call from this person, remind him that his leg breaking tactics are all talk because, if he were a real bill collector, he would send things through the mail. THE LEGAL WAY. This guy is still trying to take money out of our closed account and he wound up with about $500.00 which my bank has already collected back for me. BE VERY CAREFUL!! THIS GUY IS A WOLF OUT TO GET YOU!!!
- Dee| 1 replyBe aware that Michael Brown -- or the man calling himself that -- has now changed his number to an Out-of-State number when it comes up on caller id. Today he called and the id read: Out of Area 000. This man is dangerous. This man is a crook. This man will totally turn your life inside out. When my wife took a message from him, the 415-852-9823 number was still the number he gave. Be on the look out!!! Michael Brown is a con artist.

- DanTe replies to CindyIf you have call forwarding features (like on Verizon Digital Voice), than forward this jerk to 717-338-2533. That's the FCC Director's office phone. Maybe the FCC will finally do their job when they start getting the annoying calls. Since filing complaints with the FCC doesn't work at all

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.
If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:
■Notify your banking institutions.
■Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
■Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
■File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
■Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
■Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
■Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
■Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
■Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
■When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements
