I got a call from this number but and they said I called Toronto Police. When I looked at what numbers my phone dialed, there was no 911 call. I have no idea how I called 911.

This is the phone number that Toronto Police uses when their radio room (dispatchers) calls out.  To call them back, call 416-808-2222, push Zero and ask for the "Radio Room".

yes I got a call claiming to be Toronto police calling back on a 911 call.  Phone had been in my pocket and was locked.  My outgoing call log had nothing in it to correspond.  Not sure what this means.

I received a call from same number at 8:02pm and I missed this call but since my phone was also locked i have no clue who called up. I was curious and searched on Google to whom this number belongs and to my surprise I found so many people sharing their experiences relating to this number and calls received from this. I am assuming some sort of scam too but i have no basis since i never got to know who called and no one left any message as well.

I got a call from 416-343-7050 at 4:31am on Nov. 14/08 while I was asleep.  There was no message.  I had not called 911 or anyone else.  I noticed the missed call when I got up.

There seems to be much confusion about this number when I "googled" it. I was suspicious so I called the Toronto Police non-emergency number (416-808-2222)to report a suspicious call. I was really embarrassed to find out that 416-343-7050 is one of their outbound lines. The man I spoke to said he has already had 15 cell phone mis-dials since he started shift 3 hours ago. He said this happens all the time. I thought the call would have been logged on my blackberry like others out there but apparently not. I apologised for wasting their time and will now be locking my phone….Hope this helps folks.

This just happened to me as well and apparently, with a Blackberry anyway, when the phone is locked you can still choose to place an emergency call.  That call automatically goes to the local police and they call you back.  it is actually a really great service because if you are in an emergency then you don't have to waste time unlocking the phone, you can just call the police right away.

Same thing happened to me...if you ask me it is Police:Surveillance and Patrol not Police:Serve and Protect.

I think at this point the cops are phishing. If you ever knew a big dealer or some sketch bag thief and had called them...or perhaps even if you had a plumber you had called but he dabbles in weapons dealing, which you had no clue about.... well then maybe the cops are calling phones in that network and listening in for a few minutes to see if you reveal something incriminating about yourself.

n.b. this is only a theory and only to be considered paranoid if it was proven to be a useless waste of time for the cops. Maybe it is actually effective.

impossible to say unless you were a cop and if you were...would you say?

the reason i think this is because the cop who talked to me started giving me the third degree about the convo they had listened in on. it made me very uncomfortable to be treated like a scab of society when i'm just sitting in my buddy's car talking about a ring he has to pawn because a contractor still hasn't paid him for a tiling job he did six weeks ago.

democracy:checks and balances...we clearly need some more of those.

My blackberry had too low battery to have radio connection on, so i dialed 911 which activated the radio connection, then i pressed end call repeatedly, but my blackberry was lagging so i guess the call went through. 5 mins later, i received a call from this number but did not pick up. when i tried calling back it just dropped the call. so my assumption is, it's the police trying to call u back to make sure everything is ok.

You all have to realize if you have a phone, there is an "emergency call" option in which your phone does not need to be unlocked.  We should be happy that they are doing their jobs in getting back to us once dialed, even if by mistake.
