i received the call at home for my wife. We've been getting a ton of calls trying to offer us the Scene Visa. I interrupted the girl saying that if she was calling about that, we have said every time we are not interested. I heard her snicker, and say that it wasn't. She gave me a 1-800 number, and said she was responding to a call my wife made. My wife told me she never made any calls to Scotia, and futhermore, when she called the 1-800 number, there was no option to contact the extension number that was given to us.

    FOR INFORMATION - BE AWARE
The following number called 416-750-6018 claiming in a tape recording to be from Scotia bank stating that my card had been compromized. I redialed the number and received a tape recording. I am very suspicious of these types of calls, but also place the responsibility directly in the lap of the bank management who allow telemarketers to do work that could be done by bank employees with a proper identification. Another example of loose management hoarding the publics money and providing no service at all.

THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A PERSON TELLING LIES, ATTEMPTING TO GET PERSONNAL INFOMATION FROM YOU UNDER FALSE PRETENCE. PROBABLE A TELMARKETTER BEING USED BY THE BANK TO AVOID EMPLOYING QUALIFIED STAFF, OR A STAFF PERSON WORKING FROM HOME AND RECEIVING PENIES ON THE DOLLAR FROM THE BANK.
PLEASE NOTE THAT BANK FEES STILL REMAIN HIGH AND EXECUTIVES LIVE ABOVE THEIR MEANS.

I truly loathe Scotiabank. They've been placing their Junk phone calls to my house for over a year now, no matter what I do to get them to stop. I've phoned and e-mailed them to ask/demand that the calls cease forever, but it does no good. I'm also on the do not call list, but obviously Scotiabank is too important to recognize and honour the do not call list. I have never done business with Scotiabank and never will. I will, however, try to convince as many people as possible to either cease doing business with them or never start.

Actually, the call seems to be real...
I received it as well, saying my card has been compromised. So I googled that call back number and found it here:
    http://scotiabank.com/cda/content/0,1608,CID8086_LIDen,00.html
    which is 1-800-472-6842.
Well, they asked me to go visit one of their branches. Seems legit enough. I will go at noon ..

I too have received a call on Sept 23/2009 re:416-750-6018. I do not have an acct with Scotia that even uses the number that was called. So I don't know how they got my home number. It is obviously an attempt to get info.

It isn't a scam....they call fromt hat number with a recorded number if you're card has potentially been compromised at a machine or point of sale. I missed teh call from this number but called the number on the scotiabank site under contact us and spoke to a representative who explained that they had put a hold on my account until I got a new card. They are protecting you, not scamming you.

I know that I for one feel safe knowing that my bank is taking pre-emptive measures to prevent my account being breached.

Take it easy you guys. It's only ScotiaBank calling to confirm something. They always call me from that number soon after I open a new account Online or RRSP or even make a change to my account. It's just them trying to proctect you.

Found this number had left a BNS "compromised" card message on my answering machine and was suspicious but wondered when they said to go to the branch. Sure enough there was an unaccounted for debit that was pretty recent. I'm glad they phoned.

That number is probably a general number they use for phoneing clients on everything from selling stuff to security, probably a database dialer of some sort.

The moral of the story is if you get a call and they aren't asking for info but are telling you to go to the bank I would pay attention.

They didn't bother to leave a message or number and they didn't make a second attempt to call, so they obviously aren't seriously concerned about talking to me which leads me to believe they aren't worth talking to. Ergo; probably scammers.

I will call Scotia Bank to inquire about this phone number.

It's Scotia Bank. Don't panic. Most of their calls are done to protect you or your cards. Sure they outsource a lot of their business, but so does a lot of other companies, it's the reality of the economy.
