Called saying I had 4 serious allegations pressed against my name and I'd be arrested by the local sheriff. I needed to call them back before any further legal actions happened.

No company name +  threats of arrest = SCAM.  Was your name even stated??  Phone calls, emails, & faxes are NOT official notification.

There is legislation (both in the US and Nigeria), but enforcement is often more difficult than passing the legislation. But they do get some of them.

This # called me 3x today. I called them back and requested to be removed from the list. He proceeded to ask me if Trump or Obama would win the election. Then went into 9/11 and Bin Laden. Nothing regarding the IRS.

I received the same call ther times today and 3 times yesterday. It sounds like a robo-call with an "electronic voice" threathening with an arrest. They used to call 2 years ago and a live person left messages with an "Indian accent" after they were exposed as a scam on the radio, they switched to a robo call. Today I had it and I called them back, the guy had an Indian or Pakistani accent (different countries that have an almost identical accent) he said, "I will bring your file" when he came back I told him off....! after I hanged up i kept receiving calls from this weird number  (919)312-839-020. I did not pick up but when I checked the message, he did not talk but I could hear him typing on his keyboard, there were a lot of people talking on the background with the same accent. It appeared to be a big operation on a "call center" scale. I believe our government should intervene as this has reached a US national epidemic. As some people have probably pay, they probably think we are stupid. When they have success, they immigrate here and they play their game again.

    Please watch your language...

All debt collectors are required by law to send you a DEBT VALIDATION. This is sent through the USPS ONLY (email, text, faxes, carrier pigeons, smoke signals...none of those count) and state when you incurred the debt, to whom you owe the original debt, and how to proceed should you not recognize the amount.
This must be sent within 5 days of the first time the company attempts to contact you.
REAL DEBT COLLECTORS SEND THIS. Scammers do not.

A few other things to know-
-You cannot be arrested for ordinary debt in the United States.
-Process servers do not call in advance. They only get paid if they deliver you papers the court (not a private company) has ordered be delivered, and if you flee, they don't get paid. Therefore, they do not call ahead of their arrival.
-Likewise, officers do not call you to tell you they will be arresting you. Why would they?
