How do you know that is the person they are allegedly looking for?  Simply because they have the same name?  Or because some website put your town next to that name?  The same website that probably did not do any actual research and has never updated the information since?

Now, here is a better idea.  You can make Portfolio pay you a lot more than $500.  If you want to know how, then read my post here:  https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-859-340-1606
As it tells you everything you can do, what federal and state agencies to report them to and how to make them pay you.  Or you can do nothing and put up with the calls.  Your choice.

They are NOT collectors!! When they called me, they were trying very hard to force me to say YES ( and we all know, why)!!!

I kept say NO NO NO every time in a very loud voice. Finally, I pi**** them, as the guy cursed me and hanged up. Good riddance, scamster trash!!

They can not legally force ANYONE to pay on the expired debt! Hence, their threats of suing is really out of the question. However, they use all possible tricks to force people to pay them ( thus they keep calling people at nausetum hoping for a lucky break - VoIP does not cost much, other then online access) , and if they receive even 1 penny from you, the clock start from ZERO, and then you will OWE them an entire sum ( long forgotten). If you in turn decide to bring charges against them for false threats, they will claim that their representative overstepped his bounds, and he was since fired, and they are legally not responsible for anything. This is their usual tactics! ( Check the news and the entire web).

You are almost correct. "If you in turn decide to bring charges against them for false threats, they will claim that their representative overstepped his bounds, and he was since fired, and they are legally not responsible for anything"  That statement is not true, so you must be going by what they use to placate the BBB complainers.  If during the course of furthering the business, the employee commits a tort, the employer is liable, regardless.  This of course is supported by the many, many, many lawsuits that they have lost over the years.
