The inconvenience of receiving unwanted phone calls is a minor glitch in a very important service.  This is NOT "BS" as a couple people have posted.
Those of us who depend on such calls to be alerted of changes in the status of a violent predator who has ruined our lives wish our only problem were some unwanted phone calls.  It is easy to register a number or email address.  My guess is someone has transposed a number when registering their own.  Spend a few minutes acting like an adult, call the toll free number, and politely request that your number be removed.

Also received a call from this number but didn't answer it.  It's possible that this is the KY State Police Sex Offender Registry notification service alerting about a change of address for a registered individual.  However, that usually shows up as an 800 number on Caller ID.  I'll try the removal number given above.  Thanks.

Just because you have had the same number for over 20 years, doesnt mean that you are the FIRST person to ever be issued that number.  People are incarcerated MUCH longer than 20 years, that could just be getting released.

I found that the caller informs people of court cases approaching.  If you have not filed a case against anyone nor againt you they should not be calling.  If you have questions about the calls phone 1-866-277-7477 ext 1

Having been the victim of violent crime, I am registered with VINE.  I'd already added the toll-free number to the caller list, but didn't know this one.  One of these felons was moved into the state system yesterday.  Now that I know whose number that is, I'll be sure to pick it up next time.

Believe me, it's nice to know where they're at, especially when one is a career criminal and the other is a punk who's appealing the sentence he got after he pled guilty to three felonies and a misdemeanor.  The first one has a history of escape attempts, so it is especially nice to be notified that he's still where he's supposed to be.

You have to register the phone number on the VINE website when you want to be notified if a specific offender is released from custody.

I started receiving these phone calls yesterday afternoon and they won't stop calling until you enter your PIN @the end of the message. I blocked the # from my cell, but that just kept it from ringing it still allowed for them to leave a message on my voicemail. I finally had to turn my cell off last night around 11pm, when I woke this morning I had over 8new voicemail from this # ! So I googled it & found this page. I called the # below (1-866-277-7477) & they asked me my State then gave me the number of the states sheriff dept to call. I had to leave a message w/the lady, she was unavailable @the moment, but hopefully she'll call me back today & soon. The 1st # I called assured me that once I called the 2nd number and told them to remove me from the VINE list, the calls would then stop. We'll see!

If you answer the call and they ask you for a PIN#, the PIN is 1234.

The calls I'm told will stop in 3 days if you don't enter the PIN.  Someone used your number to notify when a criminal has been released.  in my case I know the person who used my number so I just called the 866-277-7477 and they gave me a local number to call.

It's not a scam, perhaps just wrongly entered number when it was set up etc.

This # is tied to VINE.  From their website:
"VINELink is the online version of VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), the National Victim Notification Network. This service allows crime victims to obtain timely and reliable information about criminal cases and the custody status of offenders 24 hours a day. Some states have the ability to display this website in Spanish. Please click on the state where you wish to search. If this option is available, you will see an "English | Español" toggle in the upper right hand corner. Victims and other concerned citizens can also register to be notified by phone, email, text message (SMS) or TTY device when an offender's custody status changes. Users can also register through their participating state or county toll-free number."
    https://www.vinelink.com

To stop notifications to your phone number:
    1. Call you state's VINE Service Number, e.g., 1-877-VINE-4-FL (1-877-846-3435) for Florida.
    2. Follow the prompts and select the option to hear and stop notifications to a subscribed number.
    3. Enter your PIN #!  The default depends on your local police dept. and is often set as either the last four digits of your phone number followed by pound, 0000#, or 1234#.
    4. If these options don't work, call VINE services or your local police departments for more assistance with your PIN number.
