- Roudy replies to EmergentAgreed. In every voicemail they've ever left me, it's always either been just silence or an automated voice saying "Call this 800 number back with this reference number. Not once have they ever identified themselves.
Can they still call you like that if you are on the "National Do Not Call" list? I definitly never gave them permission to call my cell phone.... as I have never spoken to them. - very much annoyedThis number has been calling me for the past few months. I don't answer but everytime a voice mail is left...which is annoying. But it never says who it is..I just get the tail end of the automated message. I don't have any debts so why are they calling me?? I am having this number blocked soon...I wish someone would fix this nonsense. They sometimes call me 3 or 4 times a day. They start at 6 am and sometimes I get them at 11 pm!! Hello I am trying to sleep jerks...

- NickI get these on my cell phone ever since i got the number. i don't even believe in medicine or doctors so i know i owe them **nothing** . since it was probably the last person who had my number, i figured ignoring them would work--they'd eventually give up when they realize no one is returning them. but they keep coming. twice, maybe three times per day. never a human on the other end and no way to say 'you got the wrong number!'. no call block in your contacts will work--oh sure the ringing and such will cease, but the number will still show in your call log as 'missed' regardless. the message is a repeating 'don't hang up, this is not a sales call' and so on and loops, and last time i had to pull my battery since it wouldn't show the on-screen keypad and allow me to hang up. VERY annoying. i also get texts too, the same number once or twice texted me thanking me for their services, and one other for a birthday announcement.

- Barbara replies to DB| 1 replyI have been recieving calls form "GLA collections" for about a week now and I finally answered the phone and the lady told me I owed $956 from 2009 and one in october of 2011. I told her I didn't have any debt on my credit report for that amount and what I did have on my credit report was already paid. She told me if I paid it in full, she will wipe it off my record like it was never there and that she will double my credit score. She said I could pay it in full when I get my taxes and she will contact me again in February to make the payment. Her name is Valerie, I don't know her last name. She also told me if I didn't pay it, my account would be turned over to an attorney and then I would have to pay legal fees. I have never given any debt collector my number and this is the first time I've ever had any debt collection company call me. I also recieved a bill, but it doesn't say what the bill is for. After reading other messages, I'm not paying anything to them. Thanks for the information.
- Barbara replies to BarbaraThe number that called me was 502-267-7522. I get the same automated message saying "don't hang up. This is not a sales call, this is an attemp to collect a debt..." blah, blah, blah.

- SuzannaThis company called me on Sunday 2/17/13, 8:04 PM. It was an automated call from 502.267.7522. The call was an automated system that told me that I owed $177, and to press a number to pay or another number to talk to someone. When I pressed the number to talk to someone, it took me to a voice mailbox. I hung up and called the number back. The automated system told me that their office is open 8a-9p M-F and 8a-630p Saturday. Their automated system is calling me when they are not open, demanding money for a debt that I have no information on expecting me to pay because a computer says I owe money.
I have filed a complaint with the FCC online and will be following up with the Ky AG.- Caller: GLA Collections Inc

502-267-7522 - tiredofthiscrap| 2 repliesReceived a letter form gla. Called them today about some hospital bills I owe. I was told that my options were to either pay my whole balance and I would get a discount, pay $120 a month, or I could do a $50 a month plan with a $500 down payment. Since when do you pay a down payment to make a payment? Then after I told them I did not have $500 but I would pay the $50 a month I was told that they would waive the $500 down payment but I had to go to a bank and attempt to take out a loan for the total balance I owe and once I have a denial letter send it to them as proof that I attempted to pay the debt. WHAT THE HELL!!! I told her that was the dumbest thing I ever heard. If I am agreeing to pay the $50 a month then I am attempting to pay the debt!!! Also, she said it prove to them that I do not have the money to pay. Well I am on unemployment right now and I can prove that, but that is not good enough for them.

Complain through their BBB http://www.bbb.org/utah/business-reviews/coll ... aper-ut-6001598 as a sort of record for yourself and for them.Don't sugar coat your complaint, write it while your angry to make your point . They'll deny any wrong doing but you won't have to listen to one of their cowards disquised as a professional and ethical collector.

- Hard worker replies to DB| 1 replyI have recieved 7 calls in the last 2 weeks
From brad bowers not only to my cell phone but to my work
I proceeded to ask him what the bill was for that I owed he told me I could not release that information
I asked him when and where the services were for again couldn't tell me
All he kept saying was unpaid medical bills
I called every hospital and dr that I had came into contact with over the last year and they all said I didn't owe a thing
One of the hospitals called. Brad to find out info for me and was rude to the lady that was helping me
I proceeded to tell him to not contact me at work
He then asked me for my social security number I refused to give it to him
I explained to him that I have a medical card and that it covers all my medical necessities
He then told me they don't accept the medical card
He then faxed a letter to my boss at work and asked for all my personal info about where I work how much I make and much more
Then when I was told about it and my boss wouldn't fill the form out to send back to brad
I recieved another call that was told they were going to garnish my wages to pay my account
I am so lost! - Elspeth replies to Hard workerPer the FDCPA, you should NOT pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - not email or fax - a debt validation letter showing that (1) you owe a debt and that (2) your caller has the legal right to collect said debt. Refusal to mail this DV letter is a violation of federal law. BTW, a bill or invoice is NOT proof of debt. I'm inclined to believe it's a scam call since he refuses to tell you what the bill was for or where the bill allegedly was incurred.
Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
