These people are really crossing the lines with the law.  I received a message from my mom stating this company- Paragon Funding Payday Loan has a Mediator-Anna, who called a sister of mine whom I have not spoken to in 10 years, and left a message for me to call 504-702-6381 x 303 from Korey(female) could not get the last name with account#815554 regarding a $200-$300 payday loan I took out in November of 2012.  Gave me banking info, my address at the time and last 4 of my ss#.  States its going to court and I need to take care of it before it goes.  States I can settle for a 1 time payment of $352.50 or 3-4 monthly payments for $460.00 to an additional $10 per month.  Really?  Think I'm crazy.  I'm reporting it here and to the FTC and my state attorney general's office.

Is there a legitimate reason for these calls? Do you owe a debt or is this about an old debt you have paid off? A poster a few days ago cited Paragon Funding as the possible caller, and the calls were about old payday loans.  These debt collectors will call family, friends and your workplace, and all of the amounts to harassment.  So long as they think you feel threatened and scared, they will keep at this and do not especially care if what they are doing is legal or not.  I am posting a link to some info that should be helpful.

} Is there a legitimate reason for these calls?
Maybe this started with a real debt claim, but the matter should end with a FDCPA lawsuit and a fat check "paid to the order of Kathy Perry".

Bombing the workplace with daily phone calls is not necessary for people who solve their problems like grownups. Trashy debt collectors do this not to conduct business rationally but to terrorize a person into paying what will never be proven valid. Little missy "Johnson", if I read the broken English, threatened the alleged debtor Ms. Perry with job termination, and rudely rejected fair notice that calls to the workplace are disallowed. Any already frail claim to legitimacy just vanished in a blast of statutory violations.

I would hope that Perry's superiors have a policy for turning away such irritants, telling so-called debt collectors in plain terms that they are not wanted. If not, Management should be made aware of debt collection law and that poser thugs aim to cause disruption and idle gossip, which is exactly why these extortionists love hassling people while at work. They want the boss to pitch a fit and unwittingly assist the fraud.

Not sure of a match here, but my notes have a Paragon Investigations / Investigative Services, possibly in Dallas TX, known as "bad check" thugs who make arrest threats while posing as "chiefs", "detectives", and "investigators".

If you call that 504 number they ID themselves as "Core Retrieval".  Wouldn't give me any more information.  Almost certainly a debt scamming operation.  This "Paragon Funding" appears regularly as a zombie creditor on 800notes.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question.  As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes.  The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question.  Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else.  So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you.  Let the FTC sort it out.

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

Received a call yesterday that I didn't pick up from 504-702-6381. Woman identifies herself as from Coee Retrieval. Listened to voice message they left this morning. They think it is my sons phone; they called his name several times. Threatening his job. Have a complaint number. After repeated threats, then she says "Good luck"
So tired of scams, robo calls, etc

A Ms. Dixon who stated she is with Core Retrieval, who refused to inform me as to what this call is in reference.  I asked her to stop calling my family and to stop calling me.  She has told family members that this is a collection legal matter and he will be served at my employment if a returned phone call is not returned.  504-702-6381.  I have blocked the number which appears to be a New Orleans, LA number.  However she has tried to call me back 4 repetitive repeat calls with caller id now showing 678-394-4263 Bitguard, Inc.

Scam! If you were actually being served you wouldn't be warned in advance. Nor would you be able to pay your way out of being served. Let your family know this is a scam and to block all calls from them.
