Called my mobile phone acting as a Microsoft Rep, had Indian accent and said they were calling in regards to my Windows computer. They said they were receiving error messages. I told him how when I don't have a Windows computer? He stuttered and then immediately hung up. Bogus.

    Miffed!!!
Someone who said his name was Alex called about my computer errors and he could fix them.  He had an accent.  I demanded he tell me which company he works for and when did I give them permission to check my computer errors/problems.  He said he worked for ITech Solutions and they get all errors problems reported to them.  I repeated the question: Then  who gave that company permission to be monitoring my computer.  I angrily told him I was going to report his name and phone number to the authorities.  He immediately hung up.

This is an old & well-known scam.

They will tell you they are receiving errors from your computer. Then they will tell you to download some software which will grant them remote access to your computer (have full control of your computer). From here, they will show you normal windows error log (nothing to worry about at all but they will tell you otherwise).

After showing you these errors, they will quote you anywhere from $200 and upwards of $1,500 for some bogus anti-virus software. They will open up a Web browser and ask you to pay via PayPal.

If you anger them, they will download the contents of your computer and attempt to lock you out if your own computer. But if you're smart, you would have been on a Virtual Machine from the get go.
